I bought the Pelikan M200 as a gift for my real estate so I am not all hyper on my new pen.
I believe this review will be more balanced.



So I decided to ink and try the Pel M200 just to review it and see I give this lovely lady that helped us so much a good pen (or this is the excuse I gave mayself-do you guys buy it ?).
First I love Pelikan boxes.No matter how much the pen you bought the box makes you feel like you just bought a high end product.
The pen is a blue bodypeb with a F GF nib.



I used to own 2 Pelikans in the past an M150 and M800.
The M200 is not on the same quality as the M800 thats for sure.It is well made but doesnt have the same feeling as the M800 does but then when you think this pen cost me 64$ then I think you get a good quality pen for this amount.
The pen is very light weight and thus also very well balanced.



Filling the pen reminds me great Pelikan piston fills.Even with a plastic piston this pen is a S M O O T H filler.Its a joy turning the knob at the end and to feel how well refined it is.
The pen has an ink window just like a MB Masterpice pen and that great,I love these little things that make using this pen a great experiance.



The nib is very smooth,not glass smooth but very smooth.It has a surprising amount of feedback from the paper,actualy more feedback then the M800 I used to own (but that pen was a M nib).I enjoye the feedback very much.
The nib is also surprisingly flexible.No its not really flexible but I'd call it springy and with some pressure you get a nice thicker line and the nib remains smooth,thats another really nice surprise.
A bit of a negative side is that I find the nib to be a bit dry for my taste but then again I love/need very wet nibs.When I put more pressure on the nib the line became nively wet.I need to remind you that I didnt even flush the pen I just filled it with ink and triend it so I am sure once you use the pen for a while the nib will be wetter.

One problem I have with this pen is its size.It actualy fits me well but I still needs something bigger in my hands but I think for people with bigger hands or for woman this is a wonderful size pen.



Summery

I like pens that feels like like high end pens and this pen feels like its very well made but not high end.Again for 64$ I shouldnt complaint but thats me,I like what I like and I am willing to pay for it.If the M400 feels like the M800 I think I would concider paying for the differance and go for it.
I had high expectations from the nib as everybody knows Pelikan makes good nibs but even I was surprised how great this nib is.The smoothness but not overly smoothness and the wonderful feedback is a proof Pelikan make WONDERFUL nibs even if they are not made of gold.
So for 64$ I highly recommend this pen but be sure the relativly small size of it fits your hand.
I think my real estate agent will be happy with her pen



PS- the moment I took the pen out of the box my puss demanded to check it so I took few pictures while he is inspecting it cat style

The M200 was my first "real" pen . I looked at it for hours before I inked it...well not hours , but I was very excited when I got it. Mine has no spring to it, but it's a smooth writer as well, as smooth as my M405 and M605. I love the classic , simple design of the Tradition and Souveran series.

I really like the M200 as well. It's the pen I use the most because it's just the right size for my hand and it's very lightweight. I don't really *feel* any difference between my M200 or my M400. That's a point in the M400's favour, actually.

The 215 is slightly heavier. I agree it's still small... but I like the feel, and the wife is comfortable writing with it too. Time to decide if I need to buy another.

The M-200 is not a high end pen, but for an economy pen it is outstanding. I have a 200 that I use as a beater pen while leaving my M-1000's and M-800's at home. It has proven to be very durable and reliable beyond my expectations. I feel that pen users are lucky a pen manufacturer has made such a nice pen at reasonable prices, and continues to do so.

Congrats on the photos. My kitty would never sit still for poses like that.

Thanks for the review Amir, and for the pic. I sometimes think of getting an M200 body but I didn't like the look on the color ones in pictures. Your pictures show some iridescense of the resin which I find appealing (I'm sure the pussy pen rest help too )

Being a less biased review, what would you say about the appearance, goodguy? Looking at photos, the marbled M200s have always looked really gaudy and cheap to me. Do they look that way in person? I've not seen one in person, mind you.

In person the marble looks like a misty swirl on a blue sky background. Not too gaudy, yet less boring than the striated models. The lack of a trim ring makes it appear less cheap I feel, and suits the budget category of high quality pens.

Well Aaron this is a rather tough one because as they say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder (I hope I said it right).
The pen is rather small and thus not as impressive as other Pelikan pens but it is (in my eyes) altogether very nice looking and a bit concervative.I like both this pen and the more common stride models.Having an ink window is a nice touch too that adds to overall feeling of the pen.
Bottom line,no I dont think its gaudy but thats only my opinion.

Nice review of a great 'entry level' quality pen, I think an M200 like this was my first Pelikan (the first of many).

I still get a bit envious when I see the price paid, retail price in the UK would have been about £60, so roughly double the price, although you an pick them up for less if you shop around (Martin at The Writing Desk has them for £47 and Ray at Niche Pens for £50).

I am sure she will be very pleased with this gift.

Thanks for the review, especially the photos, which show the barrel colors to have a bit more life than most on-line pictures.

Ditto to that All online photos I've seen make the colours seem more washed out & therefore less attractive (not just the blue) so at one point I was considering plain black .. a very understated colour. I still haven't seen the colours in real life but I'm now more tempted.

This is an interesting review of TWO pens. One is the M200. Nice review. A lovely pen. I have a couple myself.

The other pen has a rather furry, orange and white form factor. It has an interesting nib -- I would call it a medium. And a nib with whiskers! What a concept. Very avant-garde. The clip function appears to be performed by 4 separate clipping mechanisms -- They are non-traditional, but my guess is that they are highly effective.
