Full Version: Ink bottles for bottles of ink?

With a couple of exceptions, I note that inks come in bottles that don't seem particularly well suited to the dipping and refilling of pens. They're difficult to fill and a pen when the ink in the bottle starts running low.

When I was a kid my mom had cool shceaffer snorkel. The ink had a "side pocket"reservoir that you tipped to fill (while the bottle cap was still on). This filled the side pocked and made the filling of the pen efficient and pain free.

Do any of you use a dedicated ink bottle that's easily filled?

The modern Montblanc bottles work really well in this regard.

As Ray Said MB has a slipper bottle that gives a nice reservoir to fill a pen with. As well Penman, Levenger & Namaki have plastic inserts inside the bottle that can be filled by turning the bottle upsidedown ( cap on laugh.gif ). The Lamy and VIsconti bottles are shaped to give a center well and Pelikan use to make a sort of triangular bottle that was easy to fill.

The list of not easy would have to include Aurora, Noodlers, Dupont, Herbin and Pelikan.

I love the plastic inkpot insert inside the Levenger bottle! I'm glad to hear that the Namiki bottle has one too.
The Waterman bottle is shaped so that, when the ink level is low, the bottle can be placed on its side with the cap open.
The new, cone-shaped, Sheaffer Skrip bottle has a relatively wide mouth, a combination that is also good for catching most of the last of the ink.

Thanks much, all, for your replies. After reading my own post this morning, I've decided not to post anything so late at night. Wow, typos, misspellings etc. Sheaffer. There, I can spell it correctly, see?

My favorite inks are Private Reserve Midnight Blues and American Blue. Anyone want to sell me a few empty Levenger bottles (with the plastic insert inside)? Seriously.

I sure wish I had saved some of thos old Skrip bottles I went through filling my Snorkel years ago.

I just figured that's how they would always make ink bottles. I do like the Montblanc shoe bottles.
