Hi all, newbie here. Just wanted to introduce myself. Been using a fountain pen for ages. I was an ardent fan of Mont Blanc. After becoming a journalist in the army I carried it around the world and used it daily for almost 20 years...it finally broke. In the meantime I lost 2 MB fountain pens due to what I consider a poor cap. Anyway, I switched to a Waterman a couple of years ago and have used it daily with no issues. Still haven't had the heart to replace my pencil. Despite swearing of Mont Blanc I think I'm going to get the Leonardo Sketch Pen. It's more in line what I'd use if for anyway.

Oh, I mainly write in Moleskine (have about 6 of them on me most days, what an addiction!).

So anyway, I'm a pen and ink fan, so--Hey y'all.

Oh, i'm a tennessee hillbilly transplant in southern california.

Hi there C

Well I'm not an MB fan (as everybody knows) and I prefer my Waterman instead (not because it costed 1/4 as much) but both aren't 20 years old either. My fave is Pelikan so now we're getting into the soup.
Have fun. Get at least one good pen from every (15?) major company and 50 different inks and you WILL have fun!

Hey, hey, you're a monkee (could not resist).

Welcome to FPN. Which Waterman do you have now? I've got a Phileas, a Carene, a Maestro and a Kultur. Nice pens all.

Hello and welcome to FPN.

Did you enjoyed staying in Vicenza? People in Veneto is usually friendly and open.

Cheers,
cmonkee
Not sure which waterman, relatively inexpensive. Having come from the MB side of things I didn't want to spend too much just find out it didn't suit me (nib is a little big, but is o.k. for now). It looks exactly like the one in Playpen's avatar. Same color and all.

I've been wanting the Namiki VP for years, but I just don't know about that clip being in the way.

I know, this weekend in fact, If I don't drive down to Costa Mesa to pick up the Leonardo, then i'll buy a new fountain, with a fine nib. I like the size of the Waterman I have, my main complaint with it is the weight. It's almost heavy enough, but I like the black laquer over the brass barrell. I'm soo lazy I don't even want to hold up the pen. smile.gif

If anyone has any advice, the feel free to throw it my way.

ciao,
C

Loved it. I would move back there in a heartbeat. Too bad the exchange rate isn't so good right now. It was great when I was there.

I'm a motorcyclist and snowboarder, so the proximity to great roads and slopes and the people, one of my favorite places of all time.

Glad to hear this! Vicenza it's halfway from the Dolomiti and the sea (just like Treviso were I live) and it's really convenient for both mountain and sea lovers!

Ciao,

It's about the same here in Southern Cali, about an hour and half to either the beach or the ski resort. Yeah, I was shopping crazy in Italy. I picked up my first (good) MB fountain pen in Firenze. Dainese leathers. For some reason I know Treviso, but can't place it in my mind.

Have fun in the U.S. (what do you think about what we call Capuccino? and no toast?)

I am a big fun of long coffee served in cardboard cups. My dream is to open the Starbucks in Italy. It's a shame we have no Sbucks. Just because people love espresso does not mean that there is no market for other kind of beverages, especially in the great city areas... ah, well.

The lacking of toast is not an issue for me. I like the Chicago beefsteak instead!!

Cheers,
Andrea

Lemme guess, you prefer our ice cream over gelato. it must be that when you can't have something everyday when you do get it, it's that much better. I miss hanging out at the Caribinieri bar...cappuc eh toast. Don't even get me started on how much I miss the pizza.

Well, not like in Italy. It's basically a panini or a toasted ham and cheese sammich. Goes surpisingly well with a double espresso.

You get a point here... we tend to idealize what we do not have. But don't get me wrong, there are a LOT of things I am happy the way they are in Italy, especially foodwise. Pizza and gelato are something here (USA) I don't touch e.g....

I get frustrated here as my favorite cheese is Asiago and lately it's a marketing buzzword here but all of the Asiago cheese I've tried in the states is not Asiago. It's just not the same. Asiago was one of my favorite places to ride to on my moto. Nothing like stopping at the coffee bar at the top and seeing these guys zipping buy on their ducatis then when they stopped and took off their helmets they were 2 to 3 times my age.

Eh, I miss it.

Hello and welcome to FPN. Kick off your shoes and have a stroll around the grounds. There is lots of good information as well as people willing to share information. Heck you might even pick up a pen or two at the Marketplace.

Once again welcome.
