Full Version: My first Waterman is causing confusion!

Hell all,
Im new to FP's and Ive just taken delivery of my first Phileas, its lovely, but I'd just like to ask a couple of questions if that's ok.
I havent got a Waterman cartridge or converter, but Im dying to try it out. (It came naked) I tried a Parker cartridge but that didnt fit. They seem to be too long.
I had some short, fat little things that were supposed to fit any pen, my other half bought a while ago from WHSmith, but they wouldnt fit either! Halfway up inside the barrel there seems to be a metal sleeve of some sort which wouldnt allow the short cartridge to go all the way up.
I had to resort to dipping it just to write a word or two, but that made things worse, coz its yummy and I want to write more! Where is the best place to get a converter from (UK preferrably)? Do all Waterman converters fit the Phileas? Or would you stick to Waterman cartridges instead?
Finally, The end of the barrel unscrews quite easily (just above where the gold band/shield sits) to reveal a plastic thread that doesnt seem to do anything. Is it useful for something or is it just the way they are made? Seems a bit daft if its not functional...
Any advice would be gratefully received, and if anyone has an old converter hanging around I can put it to good use!

Cheers

Hi Twanda,
I don't know why your short cartridges do not fit. If they are of the regular international variety, they should (or at least they fit into my Kultur's barrel and that's a similar pen). Waterman's own carts are a lot longer, so I can't see why regular short ones should not fit into the barrel. Unless maybe it's because Waterman cartridges are a bit slimmer?
I bought my converter from lewertowski on eBay. This might not be the cheapest place, but he's a really good seller and his postage is fair (he's in France). I tried generic international standard size converters too and they do NOT fit, so for converters I'd stick with Waterman (which should all fit as far as I know).
I think that bit at the end of the barrel which unscrews is just decoration.
Hope this helps,
Nellie
