This is Jim from Arkansas. I am a noobie here. My wife purchased a Waterman Charlston (Ivory) for my birthday. I am enjoying it greatly!

However, that reminded me of a Set she bought for me for our wedding way back in 1955. It is a Schaeffer snorkel pen and matching pencil set. It worked great for many years, finally had some problems. It has been stored away for probably 30 yrs. I sent it to Schaeffer in the early 80s to be repaired. The sent it back stating they could not repair it at that time. However, they did send me a Targa at no cost.

I am planning on sending the snorkel off to be repaired.

Well, this whole saga has me hooked now to the point that my wife has to threaten me to get off FPN.

Hi Jim -- welcome to the Fountain Pen Network! "HELLO from foothills of the Ozarks"... that's the opening line of "The Folk Sampler" on NPR, isn't it? smile.gif

By all means, fix that pen (Sheaffer could have done it then)! My favorite writer is a Snorkel (it came virtually NOS from Tennessee, so I had the unique experience of breaking in a 50-year old pen).

Thanks for the welcome. Seems like a very friendly bunch of folk here. Well, I have added FP to my addictions. The others are: motorcycles and playing trumpet in Big Bands (OK most of you do not remember Big Bands)

Hi, and me too, I'm glad to meet you.

(1) my Charlston is one of my faves (honestly)!
(2) as to your Sheaffer, send it in to Richard. He will heal all things appropriate!!

Hi Jim and welcome! Buy your wife a beautiful pen and she will be drawn into the hobby with you. It's really fun if both of you get involved. rolleyes.gif

Hello and welcome from another Arky down in the river valley at Russellville. My bud Dan here in town is an ace Snorkel restorer and he is fast and his rates are great! If you really want to get in pen trouble with your wife come on down to Dallas next month to the Dallas Pen Show! There will be tons of vintage pens, a great assortment of the latest inks and lots of fun. Dan will be there as the resident pen restorer doing work while you wait.

Welcome Jim.

Welcome from yet another member of the Arkansas contingent. Nice to see so many of us active. I'll second Pakman Pony's recommendation of Danny for your pen. He's good!

Thanks to all. It's nice to feel welcome. I am enjoying my new Waterman Charleston. And anxious to get my 54 yr old Schaeffer Snorkel back repaired and in good condition. Now I need to explore the world of inks. I did not know there was such a variety.

Hello Jim, and greetings from Ann Arbor, Michigan!!!!
About getting into inks- dont go out and buy whole bottles of ink. The Pear Tree Pen Co., has an ink sampler program- he send you small samples of the inks you want to try out,and so, if you dont like an ink, you are not stuck with a whole bottle that costs a bunch o f money.

Thanks Wolverine1,
Sounds like a good idea on the ink situation. I will do that.

Hello and welcome to FPN.

Hello and welcome to FPN. Kick off your shoes and have a stroll around the grounds. There is lots of good information as well as people willing to share information. Heck you might even pick up a pen or two at the Marketplace.

Once again welcome.
