Phileas Medium is too broad for me. What Sailor nib should I get? I would like it just a little narrower than the Phileas Medium. And are the Sailor nib widths the same for the 14K vs 21K?

Thanks,
Gawain

I used to have two Phileas, one M and one F. I now have one F. The nib on it is about the same width as a Pilot 78G M. If you think an F Phileas would suffice, and you are happy with it, I would opt for the Phileas F. If you want to try something a little diferent, the 78G is a great inexpensive pen, and if you want it even finer, the 78G F is much finer than the Phileas F.

Do not know about the difference between 14K and 21K, as the Sailor I have is a steel-nibbed school pen called the INK PEN, which is an F nib, about the same as the Pilot 78G F.

I have a Pilot 78G.. now I want a Sailor... LOL
So a Pilot 78G medium nib is equivalent to a Sailor medium nib?

Thanks,
Gawain

Don't know, but the F Sailor INK PEN and the F Pilot 78G are about the same. I would love to have a 1911 or KOP, but I enjoy being married and breathing, and intend to stay in both conditions.

French
In very broad general terms, Japanese nibs tend to be one size finer than the equivilent western nib. For example a Japanese M tends to write like a western F. Of course, this is a generalization, but has held true for my Japanese pens (both modern and vintage). Danitrio seems to be an exception, their nibs (gold and steel) run just a little more fine than western.

I have a sailor 1911 EF - I was concerned in those few days between buying and receiving that the pen would be too fine and probably scratchy
- I needn't have worried, the nib is supersmooth and only a touch finer than my kultur fine. It has quickly become my favourite and outshines evrything else I have (for the moment at least - I am a fickle creature wink.gif ).... hope that helps...

Yeah CallieJ, that helps a lot.
Pam Braun has a Sailor Pro Gear in yellow with a medium/fine I think I'll buy.
It's the only medium/fine she has and its in yellow... I take it as a sign from above.... cloud9.gif LOL

I think the Sailor in M/F is a great choice.

Here is a sample of writing from a Waterman Phileas medium, Sailor 1911 Mid fine, and Sailor 1911 Naginata Togi medium/fine.

Sounds great. You might also check the pens for sale on the FPN site. I saw a Sailor 1911 with M/F (I think) just listed last night. I looked pretty mint.
