If you have a MB 149 Three tone (Triple Tone) Nib which is a B or BB size nib, please contact me through PM

I would like the older nib ( 14 C or 18 C) and not the newer 14 K or 18 K

Whether you have a broken pen with a nib on it, or a nib separately by itself - I will buy either for a good price

Please let me know if you have it .... Thank you very much ... smile.gif

I have posted a pic below to show the type of three tone nib I am talking about

(Again, it does not matter for me whether it is 14 C or 18 C)

I'm sorry to say I have not a spare nib but what you say about Bs & Ks is of great interest
Do you know when the change came? Knowing that would be very useful.

Good luck on your quest

Hi Solitaire,

In reply to your question, there are a lot of opinions of when the nibs changed from C to K ... In my experience, I would say

that before the 1980's it was C and after it was K

But there are a lot of variations, and no particular year can be applied to this

Lot of the other characteristics of the pen also need to be considered when dating, and not just the nib aspects due to the many variations

But here is a link to a recent question asked in the MB forum which answers not only what the difference is between the two, but when it took place :

Hope this helps

Hi JB
That's very interesting. I have two 149s. One I bought new sometime in the late 1960s. It has a 18-C nib (Fine)
The other I bought at the last of the Bloomsbury Austions last year. Its a BB and the nib is marked 18-K.

Somewhere - most likely in Pennant magazine - I saw some photos that showed the many changes to the collector. It suggested that this was a good way of dating a 149.
My two collectors are different.

Thanks again for the link

Hope you go well
