Full Version: Limited Edition Sailor pens

I have noticed recently that Sailor seems to put out a whole lot of Limited Edition pens. Now Ujuku recently sold 10xUjuku LEs for around $220 each and the run was for 10 pens so this is something like $2,200 for the run. That's the selling cost - I assume the production cost is less.

Now this isn't a lot of money for a LE run!!! Worth a note that it's only the cap and barrel that were a custom colour for the Ujuku pen. Everything else is standard. Some other pens have custom everything (section, jewels and trim) so I would imagine these to be more expensive.

So my question is this - how can one go about getting a LE run made? Do you have to be a Japanese shop? Has anyone ever enquired into this?

Anyone up for a custom Sailor Pro Gear Mini LE in FPN blue with Rh trim? Actually the perfect FPN LE would be a combination of the dark and light blues of the forum (maybe based on the Morita LE) with Black trim smile.gif

Oh nooooo. That would just be too tempting.

I liked the yellow color of the Ujuku model but I couldn't afford the price at the time(I also think that Phthalo's
Dandelion yellow demonstrator is drool fodder! puddle.gif puddle.gif puddle.gif ).

Still,a Sailor Pro Gear in FPN blue in swirly or mottled blues would be something to think about........... hmm1.gif

I think they'd have to be contacted of course maybe thru a volunteer, or someone on the FPN board then take it from there - great idea. love blue - love yellow - I have to get that burgundy color too.

I think this may have already been discussed here---> http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...showtopic=61893

Actually, I don't really care if it's a FPN pen - my question was targeted at finding out how hard it would be to get a LE Sailor made since there have been so many with small runs and not a great cost (or at least not what seems a great cost based on the selling price of the pens).

I also would love to have one of those. wub.gif Maybe we could get enough takers for it "as is", from this forum alone, and not have it be with an FPN official logo and all the voting and group designing and so on...
Anyway, if there's any way to get one, please count me in...

For the money that you'd probably have to commit to buying an LE you could always get a custom made pen from someone like Brian.

In fact, I managed to score a couple of Namiki Bamboo sections for decent money and these are awaiting Brian's ability to take on custom orders so have them made into pens. His prototype piccolo homage has me drooling more than the Sailor pictured above -and who knows, he may have some transparent blue material to make pens with!

I'd also be in for a limited edition Sailor, but I would probably prefer a full size Pro Gear. If everyone agreed on a Pro Gear Mini, I'd still be in though.

While a nice idea, this isn't really a possibility. I believe James Partridge has queried this with no results - he may have more information. While the minimum order amount for a custom Sailor production is only $5000, there is no rep or distributor channel to go through, and the deal seems only to apply in Japan.
