I discovered the wonder of the fountain pen through the French foreign exchange student in my class in 1985. I couldn't tell you the brand it was - to my eternal regret - I only remember how it wrote and how much I wanted one. Unfortunately she and I lost touch fairly early after she returned home, which means I can't ask her any specifics about it. So I'm really happy this network exists!

Since 85 I've "discovered" and collected several fountain pens, including the Esterbrook my Dad carried with him through two wars, and two top-end dipping pens. One was a gift from my niece from Venice, Italy.

I carry a fountain style sketching pen with me at all times and have kept a low-end Parker fountain pen at work. I'm not a big fan of their nibs since they run medium to wide, but at least I know my pen won't walk away from my desk. Lately I've been amused by the fountain pen offerings by Target as well...

It's an obsession rather similar to finding the perfect chocolate, actually.

Haven't seen any fountain pens at any of the Target stores near me. Please elaborate!

Lindt 85% cocoa, in bar form. Available at WalMart, Albertson's, Kroger, and Tom Thumb, at least in the Frisco TX area. Alternatively, whatever it is that $tarbuck$ used to use to make their Chantico drinking chocolate. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Hi and welcome too.
Yes, it's an obsession, so you have no chance other than collecting them. After you get (at least) 5 or 10 and write with them all, you'll soon know more about what you like and what you don't.
Well, maybe.
