Full Version: OhhhhhhAhhhhhhhh! Neat ink for Copper Estie
The Fountain Pen Network > Brand Focus > The Esterbrook Forum

First, I don't know if everyone here checks out the ink forums and secondly, even though I'm
not a real biggee for matching ink colors to pens probably only us Estie peeps could understand
that there's Really One Estie For Sure that cries out for it's own special ink and that's our Copper.
Not to mention that I think the Copper Estie is a pretty unique color and this topic might get read
more here than in the "proper" ink forum.

I've really enjoyed searching for inks. First going to the the ink reveiws/comparisons here then
when I can narrow it down some, calling in a Peartree ink sampler order. Those are such neat cheap
deals!

Anyway, I was looking for something to go really well with my Copper(s). I ordered samples for
Noodler's Cayenne, Noodler's Apache Sunset, PR Copper Burst and PR Orange Crush. So far I've
checked them all out in pens except the Cayenne and even that one I did a toothpick squiggle test on.

At least for me it's going to take somethng special to match the Copper Estie any better than Orange
Crush. Boy does it look nice. Not too brown, not to orange, justttt right. (I thought the Copper Burst
was too brown and the Apache Sunset was to "yellowey/goldy") I might try and darken up the Orange
Crush with smidge of the Copper Burst but it is a real good match for the Copper Estie as is.

There was a post lately of several people getting Coppers, yall need to check out this ink for your
new pens (and the older ones others have).

I've got Diamine Burnt umber in mine. Looks cool.

I gave a copper Estie to my mum, and she immediately asked me to fill it with Mont Blanc British Racing Green -- it's a copper pen that writes in verdigris! cool.gif
Aysedasi
Noodlers Walnut in mine. (But I use the MB Racing Green too!) smile.gif
WillAdams
FPN Gallileo Manuscript Brown in mine (w/ a 9312 nib).

I do like Copper Burst and Havana Brown, but this is another good option, Bruce! Yes, this color seems to cry for a color match. I feel like the red Esties do too...
Ann Finley
I love the look of Pelikan 4001 brown in my Copper SJ. The Copper LJ gets an amber-brown mix.

Noodlers Kiowa Pecan, Noodlers Golden Brown, Diamine Sepia. Going darkest to lightest.

I don't have a copper Estie, but I do have a bottle of delightful Orange Crush. Beautiful ink with a pumpkin color depending on the shading, which makes it a great choice as the fall season approaches.

I have PR Chocolat in mine, however, I am thinking of picking up a bottle of PR Copper Burst (yes I know, I had a bottle, sold it and now want it back).

Well it looks like I have to correct myself. (I HATE that when THAT happens...)

I had done alot of practice work using my favorite practice paper (Staples 28lb laser paper) and I liked the Orange
Crush ALOT. (Of course, some of that may have been "mental" due to me drinking TANKER LOADS of Orange Crush
in the dark brown bottles when I was a yoot) I went to write out my Estie contest entry with it on Ivory paper and it
came out looking way too "urnge" on that paper for me.

(sigh) crybaby.gif

So, I guess I'll spend a couple hours tonight checking out some of yalls suggestions here for another try. I DO
like the Copper Burst but wish it were just a hair "urnger" and not as "brown". But, I'll probably order a full
bottle of it from Peartree and might as well score a sampler while I'm at it. Hence, wading through some ink
reviews tonight.

My handwriting is HORRENDOUS and it took several tries before I got a finished effort of my contest entry I was
satisfied with. I don't think it's noticable to anyone but me unless you look real hard but as I was getting to the
end of that final effort, MY DURN PEN STARTED RUNNING OUT OF THE LAST DA*M DROPS OF COPPER BURST
THAT I HAD!! wallbash.gif So, I guess what I ended up with will have to do, there's not time (or barely time) for an
order from Peartree to get here and me to do another copy. (And for some silly reason, I have it stuck in my
head to do the contest entry with the Copper LJ) (HI TODDT!)

I like to think I've done ok with pen selections, but as fun as the ink/paper searching can be, it sure can be
frustrating too!

(Update)

Oh well.

I went through all yalls suggestions. Couldn't go with the greens as they don't match the Copper Esties, all of the other browns were just...well...browns. Looked closely at the Tianamen and Antietum, too much red there. I must just be a picky bast*rd. I guess I'll settle for the Copper Burst for now. It really is nice and a bit different from just a regular brown.

You sound like you should be into mixing inks to get *exactly* what you want for a particular pen.

Pretty sure there have been threads on this in the Inky Thoughts area. Have you looked there?

I was just thinking of picking up a bottle of PR Orange Crush today. Almost went there and changed my mind. Also thinking about Apache Sunset.

Maybe someone else can fill in my bad memory but wasn't Orange crush one of the two baddies from Private Reserve that made muck when mixed with other inks. I think baby lips pink was the other one.

Kurt, trying to remember.

Pink was one. Hmm. Maybe that's why I don't already have it. I like to mix.

Nope, it was the PR Tangerine sumpin er other.

Don't feel bad, the info is in the thread Gerry posted above and you're in good company,
others thought it was the Urnge Crush too.

Cathy,

If you can't decide after going thru the reviews here, it's hard to go wrong with the sampler deal at Peartree,
I think their base prices AND shipping are less than other places and they aren't "temporarily out of stock" like
one of the other well known choices often are. You get enough in each vial for a good converter load and
enough left over to mix some with the others you get if you want.

Now, I wouldn't place an order just for a sampler (shipping...) but geez, if you're already going to order a bottle
from them anyway, a whole $5 more sure gives back at least that much in fun playing with the new ink without having
a full bottle laying around of something you won't use more of.

Ha. Urnge. I remember my son was coloring with a neighbor's kid and they asked for the urnge crayon. He said, "You talk funny."

I lost it.
