Full Version: Identify a Waterman FP from c.2000

Generally I write with a Parker or a Pelikan but I briefly owned a ballpoint and fountain pen twinset made by Waterman, bought new in 2000 or 2001 for about £75 in total. The pens in question are no longer available new and I have been unable to identify their name or model number. The pens were lost at work after a few years but I'd love to track down an identical replacement for the fountain pen as it wrote exceptionally smoothly right from the outset.

The barrel and cap were a dark green and black mottled/tortoiseshell-type pattern with a gold clip. I used cartridges but I daresay the fountain pen could be used with a converter as well. Compared to my current Duofold Centennial and Souverän M800 the pens were quite petite.

Presumably this set is a common design as it is not so very old - please could someone identify it for me? I have no pictures to refer to, but if anyone else does it would help nail the correct model.

Many thanks in advance.

Satrap, thanks for the suggestion, but it isn't a Hemisphere.

My pen had a hollow running all the way down the centre of the cap's gold clip and was green and black mottled pattern on the pen and cap. Also it's discontinued; the site you mentioned is the current site.

Begging your pardon, but the Hemisphere has the exact cap description you mention.

On another point, the Hemisphere, like the Laureate and the Expert, gets a new cosmetics job every few years. Where the finish you describe may be discontinued, the pen model may not be.

Then again, your pen could be the Exclusive, http://cgi.ebay.com/WATERMAN-EXCLUSIVE-BLU...18Q2el1247 which is long and thin, but did come in a green/black mottled finish.

Maybe the Phileas? It looks like it's been discontinued but this site has a picture -

I bought one in France in 2000; don't remember the exact price, it was more than the Waterman I used for everyday writing, but not very expensive.

PS Thanks for posting this topic! I've looked for these pens on the Waterman website, with no success. It just occurred to me to check the FPN review archive and I was able to identify them: a Blue/Black Phileas; and, my favorite pen, the Waterman Graduate : )

Could it be a Preface, I wonder?

http://www.made2shop.com/waterman-preface-...srp-pi-283.html

I bought one at about the same time as RB; it too is mottled green/black (rather than 'escapist green'; and I could have bought an FP/Ballpen set (can't quite think why I didn't, now!)

Hi XV107,
It's not the Preface - though looking at the one in your link I think I prefer its appearance to the pen I had!!

I think it's the Laureat: I loved the pen for its mottled pattern and slim lines but, more importantly, it wrote beautifully - which is what I bought it for.

Thanks everyone for helping me track this down. The trouble is I could now get hooked on having a Preface...

You guessed it right, I think, Torbich. Thank you! By the way I have the green check DF as well, but in the fountain pen - lovely design. Almost as beautiful as your stunning Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko.... better stay on topic.
