Hiya, I'm new here. I've already started posting on the penmanship page since that's really what I'm focusing on before I move into any aesthetic. Improving legibility and formation.

I find that penmanship can be a reflection of a person and when seeing the neurotic way I write, I felt it said something a bit about me that I don't like. So I said, hey why not do a bit of self-improvement, develop a new collector's hobby (I already collect umbrellas) and become proactive about it; plus it gives me an avenue to practice my writing ability besides penmanship and gives me an excuse to use a journal. bunny01.gif

I've bought many a journal but have never really taken the time to focus on using them. Now I plan on doing so. The site looks amazing and very informative and I can't wait to really start posting, building some relationships and have someone else to write too besides my sister (who happens to live with me). headsmack.gif roflmho.gif <----Unfortunately, that happens to be true.

Alright then.

Hi there and welcome too. Yup, collecting decent pens -- and writing with them everyday of course -- is a lot of fun and certainly does improve a lot of things, like your own writing, organization etc (at least for me).

Have fun. Ask us all what pens we'd recommend for a food starter pen. Start of with a good description, size and weight needed, etc. Then you can start off just collecting answers!

welcome to FPN, Latas.
Lots of good and helpful folks here, as well as a lot of great info about all aspects of fountain pens.
So, make yourself at home, and dont be a stranger.

Thanks for the welcome guys...

I actually bought two pens. One for regular writing as my starter and a dipping pen for my calligraphy practice, I got both of them from levenger.com.

I mainly bought them because they were cheapest and came with their own ink bottle. biggrin.gif

The first I bought was the True Writer® Demonstrator Fountain Pen w/Ink in blue bahama.

The dipping pen is Pewter Dipping Pen with Inkwell.

What do you guys think about these two pens as starters? I'd really like the input. Any suggestion models for a starter collector would be extremely welcome.

The pens that I'm eyeing to start collecting are any Visconti pens. I even told my sister, who promised if I really excelled in the penmanship area, she'd buy me a really fantastic collectors pen. I really enjoy the one of a kind aesthetic from the Visconti line.

Thanks again for the welcome guys, I'm happy to be here.

Hello and welcome to FPN. Kick off your shoes and have a stroll around the grounds. There is lots of good information as well as people willing to share information. Heck you might even pick up a pen or two at the Marketplace.

Once again welcome.

Latas, it is impossible to see your post number 6 because as you post, the number of posts increases and the number changes on each of your prior posts as well. I have always wondered why this was so because it would be quite convenient to be able to refer to a specific post by number.

I am guessing that you want to know whether your choices were good ones. If you enjoy the pens, they are good choices for you.

If you want to improve your handwriting, try a vintage pen. I find that the vintage flex nibs tend to improve my handwriting very much. I have to be careful with them so I tend to slow down and use greater care when I am writing.

Since you are in NY, are you planning to attend the New Jersey pen show? It's taking place in just a few weeks. It's a nice little show! smile.gif

I trade journaling several times over the years and what finally 'hooked' me was finding the write journal (book) and pen combination. It's now something I look forward to.

Good luck and welcome,
C
