I got some swatch books from Mohawk, and I just wrote a line on each sheet and can confirm that all the swatches in the "Superfine" Text line are FP-friendly, including the recycled ones.
  • Ultrawhite Smooth 80 text
  • Ultrawhite Eggshell 100 text
  • Ultrawhite Smooth 60c/110 text
  • White Eggshell 24w/60 text
  • White Smooth 28w/70 text
  • White Eggshell 100 text
  • Softwhite Smooth 24w/60 text
  • Sftwhite Eggshell 28w/70 text
  • Softwhite Eggshell 80 text
  • White Recycled Smooth 28w/70 text
  • Softwhite Recycled Smoth 70 text
  • Ultrawhite i-Tone Smooth 100 text

The "smooth" is not as smooth as HP. Prem. Laser 32#. The "eggshell" has more of a tooth to it.

However, in "letter" sized sheets they only have 24w and 28w weights.
The "soft white" is more of a cream or ivory color.

Thanks for sharing this information on "good" Mohawk paper, John. I picked up samples from the only two Mohawk papers in stock at a local Xpedx paper store, and both fared poorly with an XF Pelikan M215 and Waterman Blue-Black ink.

The first is Mohawk Color Copy, 100% recycled, 96 brilliance, 28#/105 gsm: it has some feathering and bleed through, though it writes nice and smooth.

The second is Mohawk Via Smooth, bright white, 70# text/104 gsm: rough and toothy, feathering, and bleed through, and worst of all, bad line bloating.

Next time I'm down by Xpedx I'll have to see if they have the the Superfine Text line in stock.

What ink / pen combination are you using?

I used a Hero 200D with Diamine Violet ink. I read here that very good pens show less difference between papers, so I used one that's not too cheap but not expensive either.

I wish I knew of some "local" paper stores where I could get small quantities of things.

I see you're in/around Dallas and so is Xpedx (Google Maps link).

Hmm, I just tried the Via Smooth, and the "bright white", in 65 cover, works fine. It looks like another case where you can't just change other variables -- not all permutations with the same "finish" write the same. When I got some Neeha samples, I got 4 different papers with different weights, colors, and finishes. And found that I can't just make independant choices. I really have to test every single paper!
That's why I was so glad to get consistant results on the Mohawk Superfine.
