Full Version: Looking for something different

Hey all,

As I have been writing for awhile, I realized I am not a fan of the more
"curvy" styles of writing. I am curious if anyone here has seen
or experimented with a more modern hand, with sharper, straight
lines, etc. I want to practice something a little different and new.

Any links or information would be greatly appreciated.
(FOr my current hand, see the review of the Online
Calligraphy pen in the review section).

Thank you!

I have a feeling that such a style would be slow to write.

I have to agree that it'd probably be slow to write.

Maybe try block lettering?

There's an interesting writing sample here -> http://www.richardspens.com/writings/Letter02.html (Apologies to Mr Binder) which might be worth looking at for inspiration. Certainly qualifies as angular!

Actually that's a font, not a writing sample.

There are a few different types of resources. I've attached a set of samples that were on the German Pelikan web site. (I searched just now and could not find a link.) (Disclaimer: I have no idea what the letter say, so this post in no way adopts their content.) Also, there are various web sites and even posts around here that instruct in how to practice a slanted up-down, sort of a zig-zag, orientation instead of the more traditional American looped variant. FWIW, I don't think the type of writing you seem to describe would be any slower. It would just be different and, in some ways, also easier to read by those who don't write in cursive.

And on further review clearly you are correct - it's entirely too regular to be real handwriting (unless you're caliken that is). In my defence all I can say is that it looks pretty handwriting-y to me and is clearly based on a rather distinctive script style!

It is still a good sample and should help marcmath develop the sharp handwriting he wants. It fooled me for a moment too! Great find! It's called John Handy here's a link to a page that let's you view it's character set and test the font.
