Full Version: Changing the nib on a Lamy safari

I got a 1.1 mm italic Lamy nib with my last ink order, and was wondering if there is any secret to getting it on the pen. The old nib slid out without too much fuss (I used a rubber disk like you use to remove lids from jars). The italic nib also slid on easily enough.

The problem is that the pen is not putting down as much ink as I think it should -- Noodlers cayenne looks really washed out.

Is there something I'm missing about the installation of the new nib?

Hmm, if you pushed it completely back into position ... nib finish/quality may vary, as these are obviously mass produced pieces of cut and bent steel. Maybe the tines don't have the proper distance to each other, the slit may bee too narrow or wide.

As my 1.1 puts down a sufficiently wet line (without pressure) to shade the light/medium Diamine Tropical Blue optimaly, yours ist possibly too dry.

Just stick that nib onto a letter and send it back for an exchange huh.gif

I had my only 1.1 on two different Lamys (cp1 and Studio) and it performed equally well.

After switching the nib on that pen to a different safari, it flows much better. Maybe it was the feed system on the first pen that was at fault and not the nib itself. That first pen was always a scratchy writer.

I like that the nib is silver in color instead of the usual black - nice change.

Stepen,

You will love it. I had an xf and B. Changed the B to the 1.1 and made a world of difference. I have only used with Lamy Blue Carts with great success. I hope the change of pens works.
