Full Version: Does this sound like a leaky sac?

Hi y'all!

I've got a small Dollar pen that I put a new sac in several months back, and fitted to it is a 3668 that I got here at the FPN marketplace NOS back in the winter. I've not noticed a problem with either the pen or the nib before (admittedly, neither has gotten a lot of use), but today as I write, a drop of ink is forming between the feed and the nib, at the point. It grows rapidly, and to prevent a big ol' blot on the paper, I invert the pen with the point up, and the ink drains back to the sac. FWIW, I'm using Noodler's Concord Bream in this pen.

I'm wondering if I didn't get a good seal when I re-sac'd the pen.

I suppose I'll put the nib in a different pen, and another nib in this Dollar pen and see what happens, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about what else I might look at.

TIA!

The first thing I would check would be the nib, it is quite possible that it is not screwed in all the way. It is possible that the sac is leaking air, but it is a lot simpler to just take the nib out and then replace it, If, once it is properly screwed in, it still leaks I would take the sac off and replace it.

You might want to try blowing, from the nib end, into the sac (with the sac in water) and check for bubbles before taking the sac off. An ear bulb makes this pretty simple.

dobro,
sometimes when a pen is on it's last drop (literally) it will blob it out like you're talking about. Could it be just about to run out of ink? Fill it again and see if it still leaks.

And the winner is GaryR! Refilled, no blob. Happy Estie!

Thanks again,
