Full Version: lathes are fun...Waterman 100 Year end replacement

Someone over on Pentrace asked me a while back if I could make a new end piece for a Waterman 100 Year pen that he had. I had never tried before, but it seemed like it'd be fun to try. Thanks to Rob Astyk for some very helpful measurements. Here are two "before" pics:

The first thing that I did was to put the pen into the lathe and remove all vestiges of crazing from the end of the barrel. This one is a bit out of focus, but you get the gist of it.

I used a piece of clear acrylic stock to make the new barrel end. [insert obligatory lathe pic here]

Not that I think that this would ever be confused with a factory piece, but I inscribed my initials on the new barrel end (reversed so that they would read properly once it's assembled).

It's clearer than this out of focus photo would lead you to believe.

Here is the finished pen:

After I did this one, I remembered that I had a brown 100 Year in similar condition. I didn't use the clear acrylic for this one.

Very nice work Chris,

I'll have to post a pic of a Parker Victory button filler that I made two ends for out of brass (cap tassie and button cap).

No doubt you will get more requests now that you've posted this repair. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Hi Gary,

Thanks. This stuff is fun, eh? I would love to see some pics of those endds that you made.

Hello Chris,

This Parker Victory ca 1946 was missing the button filler end and the cap tassie had been nibbled to I made up both ends in brass.
I think the brass matches the pens colour perfectly and gives it more heft.

Gary

No orders taken..sorry laugh.gif
