Okay, so a friend of mine had me send in his M800 with a skipping nib and a stiff piston
Got a new one as a replacement- STILL writing dry and skipping on up strokes occasionally
How do I open up the feed?

I'm no pen repair expert. Maybe you could send it to a nib meister. They could tune your pen to write exactly like you want.

You may have a look here: nibs.com. Scroll down to # 5.
There is a description about increasing the ink flow of a Pelikan nib. I used this method carefully with some of my Pelikan nibs and it improved the ink flow just a bit.

Have you washed the nib & feed thoroughly with a mild detergent solution? Many new Pelikan nibs write much better after this.
Have you written out the first filling of ink and tried again? Sometimes it just takes time and patience.
Have you tried a different ink? Not every ink works well in every pen.

Maybe you've done these things already. I just wanted to remind you of the basics and suggest that you don't go modifying a nib until you've tried them. I would also suggest that if the nib is bad you make use of Charpak again to correct the situation.

good luck with it and let us know how it goes,

Good advice, Bill. +1 on the suggestion.

I'm interested to hear how this one turns out, too; I've got a (M) on my M805 and it's more generous than I'd like (both in width and in flow).

Hi,

It is a common problem, but I can fix it easily for you if you want.

The nib just needs a little tuning and adjustment.
