Offered for sale is a superb 1st generation Parker Vacumatic. The colour is Jet black and the barrel transparency is amber but with excellent clarity. The 1st generation Vacumatic pens featured the early lockdown aluminium filler mechanism and this pen has a freshly fitted diaphragm and is ready to write. The date code of 16 dates it to 1st Quarter 1936.
This is the “Standard” size, measuring 5 1/8 inches capped and has a fat 0.5 inch cap outside diameter. The gripping section is also nice and chunky making it very comfortable to use. This pen is in excellent condition throughout. The imprint is very crisp and clear and other than a tiny speck or two of plating wear at the very edges of the clip arrow, the gold filled trim is excellent. There is one small nick (1.5mm) in the blind cap which is quite shallow but needs to be mentioned.
The star feature of this pen is the lovely medium “stubbish” nib which is wonderful to write with. The nib itself is original to the pen (date code 35), retains all of its palladium plating and is of the “writes both ways” variety.
In summary, this is an excellent example of a highly collectable vintage pen which is further enhanced by the superb medium stub nib.
