I have a question about Touchdown/Snorkel Pencils.

Below I have what is presumed to be a TM Touchdown and it's matching pencil (They appear Original, and came in the original TM Gift Box.), A Sheaffer Snorkel, and a Sheaffer Snorkel Pencil (Found seperately, not a set.)

I want to know if the TM Touchdown and Snorkels had the same size pencils, or did the Snorkel have slightly smaller pencils. What makes this even more confusing is the Fat 1949 Touchdown, of which I have no pencil to compare.

All information available would be appreciated!

Hi Grimakis,

A few days ago, I had posted an exactly similar question (See Here) on the board and have not received any reply since. But with time, the following are some of my observations (note however that these observations are not supported by Sheaffer literature, as I do not have any with me) -

[1]. Snorkel pencils should be 5" in length. The snorkel pencils should be thinner than the touchdown pencils
[2]. On Snorkel pencils the cap gold band lines up with the Cap edge, whereas in touchdown pencils, the Cap band has some of the cap showing below. This is evident in one of your pictures where you have the two pencils side by side
[3]. The pencil tip seems to be all gold on both Snorkel and touchdown pencils when the lead size is 0.9mm and two tone when the lead size is 0.7mm. The Chrome section on the two tone tip seems to be added to go down on lead size.

Maybe senior board members will share their knowledge with us in reply to your post and shed more light on the subject.

The reason the cap band is different in my pic is because it is a 14k Band, meaning it was a Signature Pencil. Also, Both of my pencils seem to take .9mm lead.

They did not. The Snorkel pencils are much thinner than the TM pencils.
