Full Version: Ujuku LE Sailor Pro Gear

I just recieved my Ujuku LE Pro Gear in the mail. I bought it on a whim and it's BRIGHT YELLOW. It's almost fluorescent! This is not a pen that I can carry about daily but it makes a fun 'weekend' pen.

I also took the oportunity to get some Kiwagura ink. One thing that continuously amazes me about these pens is that it started writing as soon as I put the cartridge in. No shaking, flicking or anything. Immediate performance from a brand new, never inked pen that was just removed from it's plastic sealed package!

This photo doesn't do it any justice.
Taki
I also received mine today thumbup.gif From Ujuku's photos I was thinking that this would be a pastel yellow, but wow yikes.gif Like mine a lot. I filled it with Waterman Florida Blue. It reminds me of Uwa Sea near Ujuku.

Siv
Taki, was yours wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper?

Taki, was yours wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper?

Well the paper was red, orange, and green floral patterns on cream color smile.gif After you said that it does look like a holiday wrapping. But I don't think it is, and probably Mrs. Yamada just thought she would wrap it in a nice paper. In Japan Christmas gift giving is not nearly as extensive as in the U.S., and most of the time the store would wrap the gift.
Sharkle
Pretty pretty pretty! I just got an orange one a few weeks ago and it too started up as soon as I inked it. cloud9.gif

No wrapping paper though, as I got mine from Pam Braun thumbup.gif .
Margana
Now that's YELLOW! Wow!

Hehe... mine was red and green with little gold Christmas trees on it!

So we have photos of three of the only ten in the world here on this thread.

I assume Yamada-san would have kept one for himself so does that make only 5 left in the market considering that FPNers have bought 4 of them?
Taki
I'm not sure if Yamadas kept one for themselves or not, but Mrs. Yamada said on Sunday or Monday that they have one pen with F nib left.

Gosh, what a difference in colour from one photo to another!

superbleu's pen looks almost like a French vanilla sort of yellow, whereas the stock photo shows a "bee-yellow".

superbleu
Mine is a bit over exposed, I was in a rush to take the photo and get it posted.

But the color is pretty close to true. The stock photo has much higher contrast than in real life, it's not that bright of a yellow.

I picked up mine at the post office this afternoon. Christmas wrap on mine (trees and stars) too. This yellow is about as brignt as I can imagine without it being metallic or fluorescent. Bee yellow, or maybe irradiated bee yellow is more like it. Here's the new Sailor with some other yellow pens for reference.

Best regards, greg

The yellow Ujuku definitely stands out.

I was thinking if Sailor has thought of using this pattern for their pens.

I actually prefer orange pens to yellow, but only just.

Wow, Greg.

That is a lot of yellow and orange pens.

This is my entire collection of yellow and orange pens combined. So sad.

Is this the orange pen post?

here's my orange Sailor Sapparo. I love it because the top and bottom are both orange, not black smile.gif

Greg, what are the pens on each end? I know the right-hand model is a Visconti of some sort (name?), but the left-most one is new to me (I think).

Great (seriously great, actually) collection there!

Hi Greg,

You have a gorgeous collection there. clap1.gif Is that a Lamy Safari FP in Orange? I hv been looking for one , where did you get yours.

Thank you! The Lamy is the "Flame" Safari LE from a couple years ago. I bought mine new when they were released (from Swisher Pens, IIRC.) They are harder to find now, but if you are willing to pay a bit above the original retail price, they can be found on eBay.

Mine arrived today and I have a question. The pen is quite translucent, does the ink tend to change the color or the barrel. Hate to see that yellow change color on me.

I don't see the cartridge I'm using through the barrel. When I took the photo, I already had dark blue ink in cartridge attached wink.gif

Hey, this a Japanese pen forum! smile.gif

The Sailor-Ujuku is a great LE - goes beautifully with my other Pro Gears...

Sorry for the shoddy photo... hopefully more time another day.

Hey Ryan,
Sorry I missed your questions the first time. The pen on the far right is a Visconti Verona. It was a LE made for The Fountain Pen Hospital in 2002. (http://www.stylophilesonline.com/12fph.htm)
I bought one with a B nib when they were first introduced (then sent to be stubbed.) I then sold it in a shift from modern pens to older pens. However, it was always one that I regretted selling, and when one came up for sale recently, I bought it (even though it had a M nib.) A brief trip to Greg Minuskin, and now it is back to a stub nib. I'm not a big fan of Visconti- I find their quality to be very inconsistent- but this one is solid (and orange.)

The pen on the left is a cheapie that I bought simply because it was orange and affordable. It is a Diplomat, I think. Got it on eBay for, IIRC, less than $20.

Nice pens! Is the yellow"demonstrator" on the right a special model?

Yup - that is the "Dandelion" LE. smile.gif

So lovely! What is the name of the yellow shortest pen on the left? Is that also an LE?

That pen is spectacular. I am a big fan of yellow particularly that color.

How much is shipping from Ujuku? I looked but could not figure out how much shipping was?
superbleu
Not exactly sure, but it was around 13 dollars +/- to the US.

Phthalo
Betty: The short yellow is the regular production Yellow Mini, Nibs.com has them, amongst others.

Shipping from the Ujuku Store varies - I pay about $15 to Australia, to the US it may be a few dollars more.
gregamckinney
I've paid $13 and $16 for shipping to the US for 1 pen and 1 bottle of ink, respectively.

Yeah, ink is more expensive. The pen by itself is $13 and I've paid $25 for 3 bottles of ink and a pen. Multiple ink bottles don't fit in the regular EMS bag so they have to send a box which is much more expensive.

That's a Sapporo Mini which is available in red, blue and yellow. I don't think it's a LE and I can find it on the regular Sailor Japan website but I can't seem to find it sold by Ujuku et al.

Should be around $100ish

Hi Leroy,

It was purchased from a Japanese website before they became available more easily on ebay and at lower prices headsmack.gif Maybe you can check ebay smile.gif

Just add another FPNer to the owners of the Ujuko! Just arrived in the mail and writes like a dream! That yellow is somewhere between lemon and grapefruit after they've been hit by the early morning sun! The nib is superb! and lives up to the hype that Sailors keep getting on this site.

I used a middleman, shoppingmalljapan.com. Their commission & shipping fee is quite high, thereby making the purchase much more expensive than should be. But the website is in english and helps you deal with the fact that many japanese online stores don't ship outside of Japan. Good luck!
