Full Version: Which converters can fit Sheaffer pens?

Hi,
I'm planning to order a Sheaffer Maxi Calligraphy set from MontgomeryPens.com, but I would like to know which non-Sheaffer converters will fit them. I'm not from the USA, and they don't sell Sheaffer refills here.
Will Parker converters/cartridges fit them?
Will Inoxcrom cartridges fit them?
Will Schneider cartridges fit them?
Thanks.

Sheaffer pens are designed to work only with Sheaffer cartridges and converters. The current Sheaffer piston converter will fit the Calligraphy pen. Like many pen manufacturers, Sheaffer designed their own cartridge system specifically so that customers would be compelled to purchase their ink. Sheaffer was one of the earliest to design a cartridge filling system, which was released in the mid-1950s.

Cheers,

Thanks for the info. Can you buy converters in the US in a store?

Look on this page, both the press bar and piston converters should work. Don't buy the button converter.....

If you order the deluxe kit, it comes with a converter included.

Also if you order a Rotring Art Pen with a calligraphy nib, you will get a pen that will take international cartridges and converters like Pelikan and Montblanc converters.

Looking at the page that grimakis linkes, I'd also add my $0.02. I have both the aerometric style converter (never knew what it was called before) and a piston converter, but not a button converter. Of the two, I'd recommend the piston style. Perhaps it's just my perception of the two converters, but the aerometric just doesn't seem to hold as much ink as the piston. It's also next to impossible to see how much ink is left in the converter with the aerometric.

I'm not too fond of the deluxe set because I don't like the pens there, and it only comes with 6 cartridges. I think I'll go with the Maxi set, and then maybe ask around the classifieds to see if anyone wants to get rid of their converters.
