Hello everyone,
I came across your fantastic website whilst searching the net for info on fountain pens.
I'm been a longtime hoarder of notebooks and writing paper and a couple of months ago decided it was time to up-date my FP collection which was mostly old and not working, leaky and so on. A visit to a penshop whilst in the city of York introduced me to the wonderful Lamy Safari. I now have three! Two have fine nibs, the other a medium and all have different coloured inks. This means that they are all necessary and not an indulgence, which is what I have told my husband, but I don't think he's entirely convinced!
I thought the Safaris would satisfy the pen bug for now but I scratched the itch again and today my Lamy 2000 extra-fine arrived! My husband and friends can't understand why anyone would want even one fountain pen, never mind three (they don't know about the Lamy 2000 yet)! They wave gel pens and ballpoints under my nose but I think of all those lovely pens and inks still out there waiting for me to come along and I know that there is no cure - especially not now I have discovered and joined the FPN!
I live not far from Bath in the south-west of England. I'm currently in the fifth year of a six year part-time degree in Literature which is purely for pleasure. I am planning on using nothing but fountain pens from now on for note taking in lectures and for my draft essays till my three hour exam in October.
Looking forward to chatting to you all in the future

Hi Nicky,
Another pen addict from near Bath! You're on a slippery slope though. Since I joined FPN earlier this year, I've bought a dozen FPs and 2 dozen inks and I'm not even a collector. Honestly.

Ni there and nice intro.
"Plunge".... I love that word, me, being an old scuba diving instructor. But I'm now into FPs too.
I don't have any Lamys but my first one will be a 2000. Which brings me to the question, if you don't mind... why don't you not buy 2-3-4 pens all of one brand until you try out a greater number of different brands first?
Maybe you can at least talk to my wife. She still doesn't know why I spend so much money on them. She needs a new oven.
Mike
PS: actually it is me who needs a new oven. I cook everyday

Hi, thanks for all the 'welcomes'. I can see that this board could become addictive in no time at all!
Hi Lapis, the answer to your question is that the Lamy Safari is such a good quality pen for very little money and as it's so easy to change the nib I can play about with them and see how my writing changes depending on nib, colour ink etc. And it means that I could if I wished have one at work, one in my bag, one in the car, one downstairs, one upstairs and so on. I think also that I was so delighted to find a fountain pen that didn't leave my hands covered in ink, or my paper full of blots which is what my old Parkers had been doing, that I went a little mad with them. There are still quite a few colours I haven't got yet, surely it's necessary to have a Lamy Safari in all of the available colours?
I have filled the Lamy 2000 (I'm sure that isn't the proper word, should I be saying 'inked'?!) and have been getting a feel for it this lunch time; 'glorious' is the word that springs to mind! What a lovely pen.

Hi Nicky,
Welcome to FPN, nice to have another UK member. FPs are certainly addictive, although I caught the bug way before I got here, in fact I have started to get more choosy, so probably buy less pens now. The site has opened my eyes to different makes, I doubt I would have bought a Lamy 2000/Lamy Vista or the Pilot Vanishing Point if I hadn't have found this site.
Filling a pen works for me I think it's how most UK raised members would refer to it and we need to keep some of our individuality amongst a sea of US members.
Hope you enjoy your 'visits' here and continue to buy more pens as your interest grows (which it will).

Welcome !
Great to have another member from close by ....
I just finished a part time post graduate diploma and wrote both exams with a fountain pen and 'Bullet-Proof' Luxury Blue Noodlers ink and if I do say so myself, I did rather well....
Anyway, welcome !!!
Take care

Welcome to you from New York City. I would have said hello earlier but you joined the day before my daughter's wedding and I was not tuned in to FPN on that day!
Now that you've been here a month, how many pens have you bought?
Don't worry about what your friends think. If they have not seen the light, they will never understand!
I have way over 100 bottles of ink and when I went to the show in DC last week, I bought 8 more! You can never have too much or too many!

Hi Nicky
Where do you study? I am also at uni...final year coming up
I also have to agree that this is a slippery slope - I have purchased 16 inks (not including my cartridge collection) and upwards of 20 pens in the short time I have been here........ well, I keep telling myself its not THAT many pens ..... but then I keep finding another one.
My wish list is ridiculously long as well [sigh]
I have a lamy 2k - you'll love it.......

Hello and welcome to FPN. Kick off your shoes and have a stroll around the grounds. There is lots of good information as well as people willing to share information. Heck you might even pick up a pen or two at the Marketplace.
Once again welcome.
