Hi all, I recently purchased a Waterman night and day exception fine nib fountain pen. Unfortunately it appears to gather specks of ink on the nib tynes with each opening and closing of the cap (which has quite a forceful "click").
Any suggestions ?

DO you mean nib creep?
DId you try using one hand to remove and return the pen cap?

Is it flooding into the cap?

Try doing it more slowly. I have an Exception and that solved the problem - takes a little practice. But a few specks of ink on the nib won't affect the functioning, in any case.

I have an Expert II that does the same thing. I think it is the vacuum pressure of pulling off the cap that sucks a small amount of ink out everytime it is opened. Either that, or the cap liner actually comes in contact with the top of the nib. I have cleaned out massive amounts of ink (until it is spotless, and a cotton swab comes out completely clean, put the lid on and pulled it off twice (with no wait time...so on, off, on, off), and find almost as much ink in the lid as I had just cleaned out.

Thanks, I don't believe it is flooding the cap. It appears as specks of ink on the face of the nib, rather than ink between the tynes (which is what I assume you mean by nib creep ?)
