Any suggestions where I might purchase this item at a good price?

Black is hardest to come by. I saw a few green ones on FPN recently (you could do a quick search). Good luck.

AIR, the Black G/T was in the first run, before they shipped out the fodder for the advertising pens which tend to be colors with black trim. Most folks who have one of these early Cross Solos are loath to let go of them. They are such incredibly good writers.
I your willing to budge a bit, lower trim level, the Pilot G78 pens are quite close on a functional level.

You are absolutely right.
I bought mine (Black w GF trim) from an office depot store in 1997 for $20. To this day I am amazed at the quality. For many years, I did not know that Pilot had made its nib. I can understand why nobody offers it for sale. I can also interchange the section with my Parker Big red ballpen of the early 70's....
However, I feel that there is a world of difference between the Solo and 78G.
Solo feels 5 times better than the 78G.
Good Luck for your search.

I bought a white with black trim a few weeks ago in eBay. That was the last one with that seller, buy a I saw more white and some green, no one black.
So set "Cross Solo Fountain Pen" in your web navigator

Hi,
Black ones are very few and far between, most of the Solos I have seen recently for sale are the green and blue ones with black trim, still write well, but look a bit cheap.
Good luck with the search.
