Hello!

I've heard some conflicting reports, so I thought I would ask outright...

Can the screw-in Taccia nibs (like are for sale at isellpens) be used in a Staccato? I really want one, but would really like to easily go back and forth.

Thanks!

p.s.-Also...Ebonite or not? Opinions? hmm1.gif

I bought three of the Fine steel Taccia nibs isellpens.com was selling out.

One I put in my brown and red ebonite Staccato, which I had ordered with a Medium. The entire plastic collar screwed out easily and the new collar/feed nib screwed in. I do not know if all the stacattos are made exactly the same. But the new nib worked for me in the red/black ebonite pen.

The other two I put into my Dani raw ebonite pens. I can not remember if I slipped the nib and feed in or whether I put the entire collar/feed/nib in. Dani makes very nice steel nibs, but my pens had full Mediums and I wanted to get Fine points.

The three Taccia fine points I have are very smooth but slightly wet and full Fine points. My limited experience suggests the Taccia Fine points are not super fine. Some might even look at the line and suspect it is a youthful Medium. The three I bought are all very smooth!

NOTE OF CAUTION: The first Staccato I bought was the White with caramel streaks in it. This nib unit will NOT unscrew. I do not know if the plastic collar is just stuck or if on some of them the plastic collar is not meant to unscrew. My ebonite one unscrews pretty easily. The white one will not unscrew, though the nib and feed easily pull out.

Other Observations:

There are a whole bunch of pens that have these same looking steel nibs and plastic feeds in plastic collars. Taccia, Bexley, Dani (maybe Romet???) make pens that have very similar looking nib and feed units. Generally my limited experiences have shown me these steel nibs can be switched back and forth. But I did have a Taccia that I could not quite comfortably get a Dani medium nib to slip into, and all I was doing was trying to replace a Taccia medium that was too wide for my taste. So it seems the interchange is not always perfect.

I think I remember some people writing in that their Taccia Staccatos got starved for ink after writing 2 or 3 pages straight. I have never had that problem, but I also realize that I never write 2-3 pages nonstop. My writing with pens is mostly editing and commenting on drafts. So there is plenty of picking up and putting down of the pen and plenty of pauses between writing. Perhaps my habits have spared me the problem some people have encountered. Perhaps it was indeed a bad batch of feeds or some converter problems.

I like the staccato ebonite pens. I REALLY like the olive green/yellow black ebonite one.

I do not know if my rambling helps.

John,

Your rambling helps very much! The burgundy ebonite was what I had been eyeing. I was also considering Lunar Blue, but if there is a difference in nib replacement I'll go with the ebonite. It will match my Bexley's (Stardivarius and the America the Beautiful LE for Parkville). A little woodgrain ebonite trio!

I looked at isellpens today and they only have broad nibs left, which is good because I was hoping to have a medium and a broad! Thanks, John. You've made me feel much better about my choice!

Regards,
Cory
