Full Version: Sailor Pens - 1950s

The auction for the following pens closed today at the equivalent of $450.

The haul: Ten 1950s Sailor pens with steel nibs. All should be cartridge/converter types. FWIW, they are new and almost all have Y300 stickers and they are old.
Buyer was a newbie with 25 transactions who seems to specialize in miniature cameras. Second place runner-up has only 15.

Seems both placed astronomical bids in hopes of guaranteeing a win and one got burned. Maybe he or she now hopes to put them up on the 'Bay where we've seen them occasionally erroneously advertised as having togi nibs with references to Mr. Nagahara in order to generate interest and $$$.

If they do show, unless you've got to have one, you might pass.

Thanks for the heads up there, Stan. Maybe the buyer is expecting they can get at least $50 a piece. Perhaps there are several they desperately wanted and figured they could sell the rest without taking much of a hit. In your opinion, should one spend no more than $30 on one of these?

That's hard to say. Much depends on how much they are desired. I've never seen the demand for any unless they were over-hyped by the seller. Had a few some years ago and they were hard to sell. As I recall, they discovered eBay and went for $30-40 each. I might have one left.

They're cute. I might spend $30 on one, but every time I get near ebay a bid-bot outbids me.
