The Omas Tassili Sahara Prehistorci Painting was issued in 1996 as a limited edition of 1500 pieces. Both fountain pen and capped rollerball were available.

The pen celebrates the XIII International Convention of Prehistoric and Protohistoric science which took place in Forlė in September of 1996.

The design of the cap displays parts of the drawings found in the Tassili caves in Africa which date before 4000 B.C.. The material choosen for the cap is bronze recalling one of the most important periods in the history of mankind; the Bronze Age dating around 1500 B.C..

The pen itself is crafted from Omas dark brown vegetal resin. While the complete pen is very heavy because of the solid bronze overlayed cap the uncapped pen is lightweight as any other Omas pen made from vegetal resin.

The pen is fairly large and compares nicely tot the largest Ogiva or Paragon size.

The monotone 18K gold nib is nicely brushed to match the matte, uneven surface of the cap.

Thanks to FPN-member penparadise I was able to add this rarely seen Omas pen to my collection.

That is one of the most beautiful OMAS LE pens I have ever seen.
Congratulations!

Thanks for the outstanding pictures!

I have to admit that I've always been fascinated by this particular Omas: the cap is like having a hunk of a cave painting right there in your hands. I didn't know the cap is solid bronze: makes me want one even more!

Lovely pen. Had considered this one in the past but never got one because of the lack of a clip. A mistake on my part for sure.

Many thanks for all of your kind words.

... because of the lack of a clip.

That's why it will not become a favorite "take out of the house pen" :-) At least it came with a small leather pouch to carry it around.

The inner parts of the cap are still vegetal resin (=plastic) but the outer overlay is solid bronze and that is still enough to make it pretty heavy.

Hey Michael, beautiful pen! When I once saw it in a FPN sales post, I didn't think much of the pen at the time. Naturally, I passed up on a great opportunity then. However, when I saw your pictures, I turned tables on my previous opinion: This pen is really beautiful, and your pictures clearly bring this out. Great catch and a rare LE to boot! I also love how simple, unassuming and yet elegant the pen looks without the cap.
