Hello,

I was offered an unusual Pilot custom that i am thinking to buy. According to the seller it has no number. The unusual points here are the solid 24K gold cap band the integrated Con-70 which is fixed to the barrel and lastly, the ink view window which i think is really strange! The pen was made in 1984

If any of you guys know anything more about this pen please share happyberet.gif

here are a couple of photos

Some questions:
1. Is the band really solid 24K? How does the seller know? Is it marked? That would be very unusual. I have not heard of that one before.
2. Is the converter built in or stuck, difficult to remove?
3. Is the nib gold? Very hard to read.
4. What, if anything, is written on the band? As best I can recall on a half-cup of coffee, all of the Custom models say Custom.

Pilot's better pens have removable converters and gold nibs. The size of the nib appears to be about a 5. To have a solid gold band would be counterintuitive.

Hi Stan,

Very good questions indeed. Here are the answers so far:

1. Seller says the band is solid gold. We are also trying to find out how he knows that (hallmarks, markings etc)
2. The converter is built in. He says that the converter is fitted / integrated to the barrel. I think the ink-view window probably explains that.
3. The nib is 14k gold, but i am not sure of the size. The markings are: 14k 585 pilot jis
4. The marking on the band according to the seller is: Pilot custom made in japan *** . In the description next to this he put 24K but we are not sure if this is part of the marking on the pen.

We have also asked the seller for additional information cause i do think that this is a pretty unusual pen. I am hoping to have info later on. The seller is knowledgeable and collects Japanese pens so i am kind of sure that he knows what he is talking about...it all remains to be verified.

Thanks for reply
