Hi,

Today I finally got my Sailor Morita Original Professional Gear Slim Mini. I got the pen because I wanted to see if it was possible to install a converter in it. My goal was to fit a converter without modifying the pen to make it fit.

First, I went and put the barrel on and measured how much I would need to cut the converter.

Measuring how much I need to remove from the knob.

Now I get out the tools to cut the knob. I thought it was a simple job and I could just cut the knob, so I just took out my Mini Dremel

I cut the knob

Now I cut the stem of the converter a little

Finished cutting

Cut the converter a little to make it shorter

After I finished the cut plastic parts of the converter for a professional look. I tried it in the pen expecting for it to work, but the barrel wouldn't close because it hit the metal collar on the converter. Back to measuring!

Now I got the big Dremel out. Lots of cutting to do!

Done cutting the metal collar and converter body

After an hour of finishing, regrinding, filing, and adjustments, here is the finished product:

This holds together the same way as the normal converter does and works just like any normal Sailor converter

Happy with the results, I filled up the pen smile.gif

and took another picture

Now I'm going to fix other people's pens, do some cleaning and regrind more nibs. Then I'll write with my Sailor tonight.

BTW, the Sailor pocket pen with a golden converter collar uses a similar design, but I changed the converter in a different way. The one in the Sailor pocket pen is longer, but it works almost exactly like the one in the Professional Gear. These are all custom-fit converters. If you really want one, I can do it for you, just be informed that it is a little taxing on my time. Besides, I cannot be sure that I can make one that fits your pen. If it is a Professional Gear Slim Mini, at least I now know that it is possible to make one for the pen. This was just a fun project for myself, just to see what I can do with the converters. (In short, I'll make one for you only if you are a little desperate. tongue.gif)

Neat. Thanks for the play-by-play pictures.

I got one of your modified Sailor converters with a pen from Stan. Works great for when I am not in a cartridge refilling mood.

Now, can you make one of those Pilot CON-70 pump converters work in a long/short pen? smile.gif

It's too plump and long to fit properly, and I like the CON-20 too much to even try. The converters you got from Stan are the ones where I just glued the disc in. I didn't like them much, so I made this instead.

That's a very useful sequence of pictures. It shows the process well, although it looks like you're getting a bit close to the edge in terms of the number of threads. There's only just enough there to hold. Anyone trying this for themselves would need to be pretty careful of that.

Converters are cheap, I guesss.

That's very cool cool.gif I wouldn't do it myself as I don't want to shorten my fingers in addition to the converter (I'm a klutz), but thanks for the photos!

Hi,

It was hard to cut. What I did was cut it a little big, then hand grind it down to size. Tthere are about half the engaging threads in a normal Sailor converter, so it is actually pretty stable, and I wouldn't worry about it breaking.
