Full Version: Legacy Heritage M Nib too Wet

I have a Legacy Heritage in brushed gold with a Medium nib. Its two years old. I find the nib is very smooth, but also very broad and wet. I feel like my letters are more like smudges and ink actually bleeds through the paper enough that you can see dark impressions on the other side. I contacted Sheaffer repair and they indicated a switch to a Fine nib would cost $180. They suggested I send it in - it will take a good four weeks - for them to see if there is a problem. I suspect its just a normal Medium nib for this pen. I definitely will not spend $180 for a new nib. Can an overly wet Medium nib be adjusted to be less wet, or am I wasting my time sending it in. As I said, the pen writes very well. Its just too broad and wet for my tastes. I usually use a Medium nib in all my other pens - its just this one that seems more "B" than "M". Thanks.

I have a Legacy I (I think). It's the black w/ palladium cap. My medium nib is a bit too conservative for my taste. If they're compatible, perhaps we could work something out.

$180 for a nib switch? That's just outrageous! I can't believe that their customer service can be that bad. I'd rather buy another pen with that money.

You can first try to change the ink/paper to see if that helps. If not, you might want to send the pen to someone like Richard Binder, that way you can specify the exact wetness/nib width/nib style that you want and more or less guaranteed to know it'll work for you when it comes back (costs much less than $180).

Certainly is when you consider that none of my Legacys cost this much in the first place and all except one were new or NOS.
