The Tesco Comfort Pen ~ Cartridge filler ~ I love bargains & at £1.78 $3.80 I couldn't let this pass

The only colour available at the store was blue so I chose that one. The clear plastic cap lets the design down a bit but otherwise this pen is a treat. The section is ergonomically designed ~ shaped with non slip sections for the right hander. Very comfortable. I think a lot of thought went into the design & I would congratulate the designer.

Worth noting I sent my Pelikano back without inking as I wasn't that impressed with the handling

Length unposted is 122mm & nice to write with. / Length capped is 143mm / Posted the length is 163mm but I prefer using unposted
Weight is 7gram complete 4 gram unposted

Nib is thin steel Iridium tipped No flex but not as stiff as a Lamy steel nib. Fairly smooth writer with a bit of tooth Medium Nib with reasonable line character I'd be quite happy to tackle a novel with it.
The pen writes better on my Tesco inkjet paper

Conclusion
Not worth making a special trip from the Shetlands to buy it, but if you are passing a Tesco Store it may be worth putting in the wire basket & would make a very good intro for younger users into the world of the fountain pen.

Tesco Comfort Pen made in China £1.78 with 4 ink cartridges.

Neat review, Have Fun!

I love the way that even quite modestly priced pens get a thorough, fair reveiw in this forum.

I was a bit dissapointed with the paper I used in the above photo as it is dry & absorbent & sucks the life out of any FP nib / ink
So here is a sample scan using Tesco 90 gram Inkjet to compare Nibs / inks

At somepoint I'll have to settle on & use better quality paper

Looks like the WH Smith fountain pen I bought a while back. Quite a decent writer, and a steal at 2 quid. Thanks for the review.

cheers

I'm struggling to see any discernible difference between the Tesco's and the Pelikan......... wink.gif

Not much wrong with your eyesight then .. real difference is that the Pelikan 2000/ 3000 (whatever it is) is one of the most comfortable for my hand & a far better quality design & the nib is also superior to write with

I had the Tesco pen in my shirt pocket for a few hours yesterday (Oh ettiquette horrors) when I went to use it it had gone dry .. a lay down for a few minutes solved that

This seems to be identical (apart from barrel colour) to the £0.48p Woolworths 'Worth It' Pen I reviewed here:-

The pen is good value, but not very durable.

I noticed last Friday (29th Aug) that the budget seller 'Wilkinson's' is selling this pen, plus a mechanical pencil, in a tin with six cartridges for £0.99p.

Looks like you've paid up to £1.30 (270%) more than you need have done.. Is that ripped off?

I can't say that £1.78 is bad for an FP though.

Richard.
