What is everyone's opinion in the Sheaffer Intrigue? I purchased a Rollerball and I do love the way it feels. I was curious how the FP is? It's a very nice looking pen. Is it worth picking up??

I have two Intrigues, the Black and Gold and the Silken Bark. I had the silken bark ground into a cursive italic. The filler system on the pens is a bit quirky, but once you get the hang of it the system is easy to work with. I do not post the pens because I worry about the cap scratching the finish on the body. The cap has to be rotated a bit to seat as it should, but in my opinion these are minor annoyances.
The Intrigue is a heavier pen, but has a good balance unposted.
I like my Pelikans more, but the Intrigues are good, solid, reliable pens. I am glad to have them in my daily rotation.

I love the Intrigue. It is a great writer, I like its looks and I even like the filling system.
At current discounted prices it is a steal.
I wish the pen had been promoted more effectively and I wish the Sheaffer folks could have spent the right amount of time training the sales people on the advantages of the filling system.
Nice pen!

I got one cheap from a friend.
Writes OK at best.
Skips on downstrokes.
If you didn't buy the converter I could not think of a clean way of flushing and cleaning the pen.
I imagine pulling a cartridge with any ink still in it would leave quite a mess up in the barrel that you wouldn't be able to reach.

If your pen skips, I would send it in to Sheaffer for a new nib. Intrigues should not skip. Of the ones we have had returned with problems, skipping was the biggest issue. We replaced them all and Sheaffer replaced all the ones we sent back. I use a Whale Shark a lot, and love it.
BTW - Sheaffer can be contacted by calling (in the USA) 1-800 FINE PEN.

I have probably a half dozen Intrigues in a number of different finishes and in F and M and B nibs. Love'em all. Great writers, reliable and fun to use. Certain colors are more striking than others...the Blue on Blue with that gold nib is way cool....
I use both the cart and converter for ink supply and have never had a bit of trouble with skipping or balkiness. The Intrigues are just great workhorse pens with loads of class and a good look and feel about them.

Very good pen. I thought I'd lost one, so I bought another (and then the first turned up, hiding in the middle of a pen frog). The fine nibs I find very good to write with.
Personally I couldn't be bothered with the converter arrangement, but I've got a load of Sheaffer carts to use up, and they work fine. I'm a bit surprised by how much I use them, as I only got one when Jim had them on special, and I was intrigued, as you might say.
Best
Michael
