In another forum the subject of chased hard rubber was raised and it was thought that only black hard rubber received this treatment. Someone noted that Wahl produced a pen with chased red hard rubber.

Anyone know of this, or have any pics?

Funny you should mention it, Greg. The pen in the picture arrived today from Belgium. Unfortunately it came with a crack in the cap but it's still a beautiful pen.

There's a ring-top for sale at Vacumania (David Isaacson's site) which looks to be in great condition.

Both Sheaffer and Wahl produced RCHR models. They are pretty, and seem pretty rare.

I have a Wahl pencil in RCHR. I'll try to get a photo and post it.

Here we go (it's kind of tough to see the pattern):

I have an OS RCHR Wahl Signature pen in the Greek Key pattern. It has a hairline cap lip crack but is other wise in excellent condition. It's a great writing pen but it stays in the case as I don't care to risk further damage. It is a beauty and I'll try to find a pic when I get back to my office in a few days.

Thanks everyone, keep them coming, I now believe!

I also found this pic from Richard's site; not a Wahl but a Sheaffer.

A chased red hard rubber pen. What a wonderful thought!

Here is a RCHR Wahl for sale at my website- nearmint- with the diffuse light and red-sensitve Sony killing the chasing's appearance (i need to shoot an angled shot).

I've also seen and shot an uncatalogued Waterman 52 in RCHR. hafta dig up the image sometime.

Then we have this gem from my personal collection... quite scare.

And waterman, though only couple known TBOMK.

and Chilton.

I remember seeing a ringtop a few years ago.

just to chime in...

I bet the chilton is even less common than waterman.

I've got an Eclipse in RCHR, IIRC. I'll try to find it and post a picture later.

These are very nice, especially David Isaacson's Sheaffer.

I want olive-green chased hard rubber. Is that too much to ask?..

OLIVE GREEN? NO PROBLEM! You can abuse your black hard rubber pens into Olive Green without too much trouble. Just buy a Black one and shine UV lights on it, then soak it in water for a little while and place it in the sun. Repeat the process a few times until VOILA! Olive Green. Save yourself some time and look around most pen shows and you will surely find one that has be pre-abused for you.

Just Kidding!

Heh. No-no, I have seen many a discoloured BHR, and they go from black to brown, to a sort of light puke -- not to mention that the discolouration is nearly always uneven. I am talking about an intentional, rich olive or army-green, now that would be sweet.

kind of like this Morrison Patriot, taken from Richard Binder's site -- only a flat-top, and made in actual HR. Well, one can dream!

Yeah that would be sweet. you mentoned uneven uneven discoloration? That comes from abusing the pen a little at a time. To get it even you have to abuse the entire pen all at once just like in my instrauctions.

I wonder that the additive would have had to have been to get the rubber to go green... Hmmm, carbon black for black, iron oxide or cadium for red, old cheese for green?

some nice mold essence?

I will never forget the experience at a party at an old academic couple's house. The guests began to eat the cake and complement the pistachio filling. ...Until the hostess said, "pistachio filling?.." and hurried to take a look at the cake. Turned out, it was mold that people were munching on. : ((
(no, I did not have any)

But back to the RHR theme (sorry for derailing), I do wish that there were more of them available, as well as in more creative patterns. I think that floral, vine, or fleur-de-lis chasing would look splendid on RHR. Oh but there I am, seeking refuge in fantasy again!..

Also, I love those few silver overlay pens that were made over RHR rather than BHR. Has anybody got one?

Here is a picture of the Wahl Signature Pen I referenced above. It's not the best quality picture, but it's the best I have and I'm a couple hours away from the pen. It's a great writing pen but it mostly stays in the case.

That's a stunning pen - and you don't see many around.

There are some similar, beautiful examples in the Wahl section of "Fountain Pens of the World".

What are the approximate dimensions? Is it similar in size to a deco-band celluloid pen? It looks like could be more 'stout'.

Thanks for posting the picture,

Darren.
