Correct me if I am wrong but I think this is a mid 40's Sheaffer Crest Sentinal set. The white dot on the pen is on the blind cap. This one is a vac filler with 1500 on the barrel. I'm guessing it must not be an original set since the white dot on the pencil is on the metal cap.

So then by the lack of any infomation to the contrary I am to assume that what I listed is correct about this one?

Be careful assuming lack of response indicates anything

I've been assuming in ignorance that the set I've got which differs mainly in being brown is the Sentinel model. The ones I have put the dot on the pen cap (1948, yes?) and no dot whatever on the pencil, which raises similar questions regarding the set-ness of the pair despite the matching monograms.

Without looking it up again, 48 sounds right for the dot moving to the metal cap

I just checked in on this thread.
The set shown is a pre-1948 Sentinel set. Sheaffer started putting the White Dot on the cap in the spring of '48. This is a '49 (Touchdown) Sentinel.

Crests have gold-colored caps. This is a Crest from roughly the same period as the OP's Sentinel, with the Whit Dot on the barrel end.

Would the pencil then be a 'mis-match'?

No, Sheaffer didn't put the White Dot on pencils.

Thanks Richard!
So Its a Crest if it has a gold cap and a Sentinal with a silver cap.
I haven't received this set yet but the pencil is definatly sporting a white dot on the cap.

If that's the case, then I stand corrected and will have learned something.

Richard,
I found an advertisement on the Pen Hero site with a White dot pencil listed as Sheaffer Crest Deluxe c1947-1948, and then there is a photo under Sheaffer Crest Models After 1950. Here is the link:
http://www.penhero.com/PenGallery/Sheaffer...restVintage.htm Thanks David.
