Can you help me identify this circa 1988 Pelikan? Sorry for the poor quality of the pics.

Thanks

Looks like a 400 Brown Tortoise, is it a 400 sized pen?
FloridaRandy
Won't have the pen in my hands until week's end. Most of the pics I can find of the 400 show a black cap. This appears to be a brownish red???
DougS
It's a tortoise M400 and they have dark brown caps. Nice one, what size nib?

As Doug said: the tortoise M400 come with dark brown caps and filling knobs.
As long as the colour of the filling knob and the cap is the same, everything is ok with your pen.....
FloridaRandy
Thanks to all. Pen should be in my hands by weeks end. Comes with Medium and Extra Fine nib and, supposedly a nib removal tool...see pic below.
Hopefully a buy at $70 including shipping....

A good buy at 4x that price! Congratulations!

The new bird flew in today and the tortoise with the dark brown cap and filler knob is really attractive.. I'll try and post pics early next week for positive ID. This may just be an M200. The two nibs it came with are the gold version I've come to associate with the 200's. A bit too small for my hand, tho, so this one may find its way into the marketplace after i can positively ID it. More to come.

I'll give you $71 for it!
FloridaRandy
first good chuckle of the morning smile.gif. let me see....i guess you meant 4x 71! actually had fun writing with it at the office yesterday....havanna brown looks great with it.

the nibs may be GP but that won't make it a 200 - just the wrong nibs. The 200 didn't have a true tortoise look to it but instead had a brown marbling in the fashion of the other marbled 200s. Nice but nothing so striking as what you're showing. Plus, the cap and end cap appear to be 400 design - the 200 caps of that time were more domed.

Better pictures might tell the tale.

The pre 97 M400 come with monochrome gold nibs and this one looks like a pre 97.
FloridaRandy
yes, my online looking leads me toward M400 as well. will post more detailed pics on monday.

The squarish end of the barrel indicates it's a 400 model.

Well, here are the pics. Is it still the consensus its an 1988 M400 Tortoise? I'm still wrestling with this one...you might just see it in the Marketplace tomorrow. I love the pen....just like all the Pel's in my collection...its just a bit too small for my hand after using so many 800's and 1000's....still it is probably one of the prettiest. I love the chocolate brown and tortoise much more than the black and tortoise.

Enjoy.

Put it in the Marketplace...Pleeeeeeeeeeeease.

400 body with "wrong" (GP) nib. But the nib is a minor issue considering the rest. That's definitely not the "tortoise" 200.

Wow. Very nice tortoise M400 but with incorrect nib. Yup, the nib should be 14k gold yellow nib. Is that the pelikan nib remover plier? where did you purchase it ? cool..
FloridaRandy
Thanks....from what I've been able to find this 1988 does have correct nib, not the two tone of newer pens. Can someone else comfirm as well? Perhaps Rick Propas will weigh in as well.

FYI, pen, both nibs and tool came from original owner who received this pen as a gift in 1988.
FloridaRandy
posting to marketplace.

This is an old style M400. The nib tool is from the MC120 Deluxe.
Correct nib is an all yellow 14C.
