I was very happy to see my Pelikan M400 arrive today! I picked it up for $82 from Trademe with a medium nib.

The size of the box leads me to believe that it was part of a set.

The pen writes very well, in fact I think it is the best writer of all of my pens! The tortoise colour looks much better than the photos I have seen too!

Now that I have one good nib (the one in my 400NN is no good) I can't decide which pen I want to use!

Have a good day all (I know I am), I just wanted to share my awesome news with everyone.Click to view attachment

Get your 400NN nib fixed (if Pelikan Newzealand cannot help ask Pelikan Germany). They can be wonderful writers!
Search their German website, English version, for customer service contact. And explain that it is the nib only that needs some service. Mrs. Przbylok is very helpul.

Very nice Pel, congratulations! smile.gif

Thanks Piembi, I think I shall do that. It would be great to have my 400NN working too.

You might envy my pen but you wont envy my bank balance!

It actually wasn't the Pelikan that emptied it but my first Parker 51 which is being sent from an awesome Australian FPN member. Hopefully it will arrive later this week.

Wah, this is the one pen I'm missing from my M4xx tortoise collection. I have the Kaufhof version but this is a classic. And what a good price you got it for! Lovely pen, congratulations.
PrawnBoy
O.o Classic in what way? Apart from it being a Tortoise M400 I know next to nothing about my pen (apart form the fact I love it). I am going to do some digging around tomorrow to see if I can date it/find out more about it.

The Pelikan Brown Tortoise is one of the best looking bindes imo. I have 2, one a dark brown as you have and a lighter coloured one. I have been tempted to get more but decided that after getting my latest one (third) off a fellow FPNer, which is actually NOS, I will stop. Least until I find a Brown Tortoise M800 thumbup.gif

Great purchase!

$82 sounds a mighty fine price to me smile.gif

$82 is a great price.
They are hard to find - even at ebay Germany - and they sell for considerably higher prices than the easily available greenstriped M400s.

Awesome price! I'm waiting for my 400NN tortoise to arrive. Hopefully today.

Hi,

Great price and a lovely pen (mine is one of my favourites).

I spent several hours writing with my M400 today and I am really really pleased! I only wish that Pelikan made it easier to date their pens!

I think the single tone nibs are 1997 or older (correct me if I am wrong) but other than that I have no idea how old it is.

Mmmm, Tortoise. Yum. Congrats!
NicoleP
Congratulations and what a beauty.
By strange coincidence I am waiting for my second Pelikan (and my first 'vintage') to arrive. And it's a striped tortoise too!
Incidentally, how old does a pen have to be before it is vintage?

It did arrive! Smooth extra fine flex nib. cloud9.gif

NicoleP, I hope your Pelikan arrives soon!

klangbogen, I am glad you are happy with yours too!

My M400's reign as the smoothest writing pen in my collection didn't last long. My first Parker "51" arrived yesterday and it is even smoother. I can see the two of them getting a lot of use!
