I have listed a couple of items in the classifieds that generated tons of questions and comments but no bids so... here is a chance to pick them up lower than my opening bid on ebay...

Here are a couple reference photos... there are more detailed descriptions in the classifieds

What's your asking price for this pen? Is it in good working order? Please give more details - like nib size, filling method, etc…

It's a fully restored pen with a broad nib, lever-filler, full details can be found in the Classifieds section of the FPN board which can be found in the main splash page near the bottom. Thanks for your interest!

Okay the black and gray pearl desk base is going back on ebay on sunday. It's seems that everyone that wants one already has one or no one is willing to pay $90 to get one.

So here's the question... What would you pay for this set, fully restored and rare as a fiscally conservative politician? This isn't requesting offers to buy but instead trying to find a market driven price. Here are the references, I know that everybody here has gotten a fantastic deal on an eightball or dipless set in the past so have I but that's really not the point. I sell a normal eightball fully restored and ready to go for $40. I sell colored models between $50 and $65. Black doubles go for $70 and colored doubles go for $100.

To put this in context, Pendemonium sell a black single for $70 and it goes up from there.

This set is waaaaaaaay rarer than any of the aformentioned sets, is waaaaaaaaay older than any of the aformentioned sets and happens to be uncataloged and nearly unknown so far as I can tell. What is it worth?

To make this more fun I'll include a prize for the most solidly defended answer with the best justification for their price... and i promise that it won't suck... not even a little bit.

I have a question that maybe you can help me with. I have a lime double(if that's the correct color as I understand it)
that I have had for 24 years that I got for free(the Salvation Army was throwing it away and I asked if I could have it).
It has both pens that match the pen holder, though on the clear portion on one or both of them there are teeth marks.
My assumption is that it was probably made in the late 50's or early 60's. One of the nibs is #2556;the other is #9556.
I wouldn't mind selling it if you or someone was interested--I'm not using it. The question is: What is it worth?

Well, I had planned to give the winner of my contest one of my restored red Js but no one had any thoughts on the subject. This set must really be an oddball. Thanks for your interest and I hope I have better luck next time...

Adam,

This is just a completely subjective hypothesis from someone who is very new to Esterbrooks, but I get the feeling that the market has become saturated with them during the past couple of months, and this may be the problem.

Example: I have been waiting, looking, hoping, for a nice "nurse pen" for over a year. There was nothing. Then, suddenly, several sellers were offering them last month. And one of those sellers was selling not one, but two. There are other examples I've noticed with unusual Esterbrook models becoming available lately, this one just came to mind most readily.

In any case, don't be discouraged -- just wait it out and demand for them will rise again.
