Full Version: What size sac 4 Sheaffer Touch-Down?

I've got two Sheaffer Touch-Downs to resac, replace O rings, etc. I've never done one before but Da Book says it is pretty easy. Unfortunately, I don't know if I have the wider Touch-Down or the more slender one.

I also don't know what size sac they take? Any help from the experts here?

Much thanks in advance and any additional advice or caution is always welcome.

All good wishes,

Andy

The Sheaffer TDs take a 15 sac... it actually calls for a #15 necked sac, but everyone says to use a standard 15 and just cut to length...
I just ordered a bunch of TD and Snorkel and Esterbrook sacs from Pensac
He has a great chart on his site telling you what sacs to use with what pens... it also tells you what size TD you have according to the diameter.

Thanks,

I've seen that chart but I've had different folks give me different sizes for the Esties, for example. I generally wait to hear from someone that has done some and knows the listed size works.

Have you done TDs or are you just quoting the Pensac site?

Thanks,

Hi,

15.5 is the right size for touchdowns. Thin wall sacs are better.

I've done ok with regular sacs instead of thin wall, but thin wall is probably better.

The problem with the chart is that a lot of it is innacurate. It's always best to fit it yourself or ask. (Even though you get multiple answers)

Thanks to all for the info.

Dillon, can you bail me out and fix whatever I mess up if needed?

I sure will!

Actually, I have to disagree with many experts about the thin wall sacs. It is true that they deflate more easily, but they also inflate much more slowly. I find that regular sacs have more "suction" and fill more easily. Thin wall sacs are OK provided the pen is allowed enough time to fill. I started using thin wall sacs on Snorkels, now I use regular sacs and I am happy with the results.
