If you were to replace or buy a new Pelikan 14k nib what will you choose between bi-colour & the single-colour nib?

The bi-colour is a bit expensive does it mean that it has a much precious metal in its construction? (sorry for the basic question but i'm just curious)

thanks

Your post doesn't indicate whether you plan to get the nib modified by a nibmeister or if you plan to use it in a pen with silver colored furniture; in my conversations with Mr. John Mottishaw, he indicated that the older, single colored nibs were better for a flexible customization. Barring that type of customization I would say that it is just a matter of preference. The single color gold nib would not look aesthically pleasing in a pen with silver furniture but some people aren't concerned or bothered by that. Hope that helps.

Greg is right as far as I know.

The pre 97 Pelikans had single tone nibs. With the new model came the rhodium trim.

If you have a pre 97 pen or a Pelikan with gold trim and you don't care for the additional bling, the monochrome nib is fine.
If you have a pen with rhodium trim the bi-colour nib might look better. There is no difference in the writing characteristics. So it comes down to a matter of liking.

I have no plans to get the nib modified by a nibmeister. I hope the single-colour would just go well with my Black/Green Souveran M400. Good to hear that there is no difference in the writing charactersitics. Since I messed up with my XF bi-colour nib maybe I should try the single tone.

Thanks Greg & piembi
