Just got this from an ebay auction, and in all the pics I've seen so far the Red Veined looked black/gray. But his one is definitely a green tone. This pen was someone's preferred writer judging by the wear and still excellent condition, but is it faded or was the green cast the real normal color? Thanks Kevin

Kevin;

Yes that is the mark of a discolored red vein. If the description says the pen is greenish or it appears so it is discolored.

Unlike most celluloids which seem to discolor inside out, i have found some gray/reds whose discoloration seems to be surface phenomenon. Sometimes a good polishing can yield more gray color beneath. Othertimes not. Of course this color is susceptible to crazing, which is a bad sign

Thanks, I may try to polish it lightly to see if it changes. If not, it is just part of it's character and history.
