OK, won this on eBay for a less than the parts are worth... so I am not complaining....
The pen has a 9 date code on the barrel....
It measures 4.5" long and .480" at the cap ring...
It is obviously a Shadow Wave with a speedline filler... I have not cleaned or polished it, but it appears to be a dark green in the picture with flash, but more black in room light...
Interesting is the silver furniture.... might be a reverse trim....
I believe it is a Junior Debutante (according to the Vacumatic Book) because it has a 1" approx. clip .... The clip also has the star..
However, I need to find a new nib for this puppy... the 8 feather nib measures .263 at it's widest point and is .930 from tip to end... maybe a touch longer as the tipping is gone.. but not broken back...
Here is a picture of the pen, as mentioned, uncleaned or polished... the clarity is pretty good... it should clean up real nice...

Whatever it is, it's beautiful.

Let's play "Name this Vacumatic"

If it is a boy I vote Sam, girl Sarah.

Not an expert on the shadow waves by any means but I have a few and I do agree, they are nice when cleaned up.

Was this a real Grizzy or just a near Grizzy?

Well, let's just say I got it for less than I would have paid for the speedline filler unit that is in it.... rolleyes.gif

Junior Deb sounds good to me.

As to the trim, is there any possibility that it was originally grey and has picked up a greenish discoloration cast?

Either way, nifty with the star clip!

Griz, can you please send us a picture when you've cleaned it up? I've never seen one of these before (exposing my vast ignorance here ohmy.gif ).

Thanks,

Erick

It is gray. It is the expected trim color. Called Junior Debutante in 1938 catalogue and Sub-Deb in 1939 Catalogue. Junior Debutante is the better name.

Griz and I discussed this pen yesterday. It was hard to visualize the color of the pen, but now that I see it I concur with David, it is a grey with correct trim color. Nice looking pen there Tom, I would put it about $110 or so due to the clarity of the barrel.

Tom, shoot me the dimensions of the nib, I might be able to help out in that regard.

Cheers,
Sean
