Hi folks,

I bought an Osmiroid 65 but wanted a better nib, so Fred Krinke at the Fountain Pen Shop sold me an Esterbrook 9128. I love the nib, which is flexible, and I confess I would not remove the bit of tooth it has, because the just-right-amount-of-scratchiness thrills me while I write. (Where else can I tell that to anyone?)

So, now I am waiting for my first Esterbrook (Copper) to arrive in the mail from an ebay purchase. It has a Venus nib (I know, you guys saw it on ebay, too.)

They are really nice looking, but you knew that, too.

OK, so next time, I will get an Esterbrook pen WITH an Esterbrook nib. But, I remember earlier posts that seemed to tilt in the direction of giving some wiggle room on what is "authentic."

Cheers!
Mars

Welcome to the Estie club! The nice thing about Esterbrooks is that you can take that 9128 and put it in your Copper Estie and have 100% Estie goodness! With 2 pens and 2 nibs you have 4 different writing experiences. Have fun!!!

Well, actually, I got my pen today. It is beautiful. But nib was not my style, so I went to the Fountain Pen Shop and got another 9128.
Of course, that was only after I bought a 1954 Fern Green Estie J with a 9048 nib. So now I have two J's and three nibs and more permutations....

Next I want a Blue and a Grey!

I love the way these look and feel, and even the top screw feels so smooth and refined. These are great pens! But you knew that already.

Best,
Mars

Thanks! I just bought my third one! A Blue J. These pens are really wonderful. I have been experimenting with different inks, and am please with the results. I wonder if anyone matches their ink coors to their pen colors with Esties.

I just bought a blue Transistional J yesterday from a chap who did the restoration on it. His pics look amazing, and I cannot wait until I get it.

I went with the 9555 because I like the XF/F feel. It is going to be my first vintage FP and I am very excited. I have some Pelikan 4001 ink on the way as well and cannot wait to get it in there to test.

Hey, congratulations! I am jonesing for a 9788 sometime soon. I await my pen in the mail, and am choosing a bottle of PM Sonic Blue or Chocolate for starters. Welcome to the vintage-not-high-brow-but-classy club. thumbup.gif

I do match colors to the Esties, they just scream out for it. EG:

Red - Black Cherry (Private Reserve)

Copper - Either Waterman Havana Brown or PR Copper Burst

Green - Dennis Lively Green, a custom minty green mix

I have not yet fired up my new grey transitional - I don't have any grey ink! I suppose I will use Aurora Black in it.

Have yourself much Estie fun!

Maybe try PR Sonic Blue....Well, mine may look grey because of left over black ink in the sac. I know, In know.....
