I am considering my first major pen purchase, the M800. I am also considering turning the factory nib into a Binderized cursive italic. Anyone have any thoughts?

I'm just not that bold myself. Got a really good deal on a second medium nib and sent it to Greg Minuskin to regrind to an oblique cursive italic. Will let you know how it works out in a couple of weeks.

If you already know that you like cursive italic nibs, then you certainly couldn't go wrong by asking Richard Binder to undertake the alteration for you. (No affiliation apart from being a very satisfied customer.) If, however, you're not entirely certain whether a cursive italic nib will suit you, then it might be wise to purchase a second nib for the alteration, as Nolan613 suggests.

Well I did it today, ordered my blue stripe m800 with a cursive italic nib from Richard Binder. Looking forward to getting it!

Good point there. I was interested as to whether or not I like the cursive italic grind. So I purchased one of Binder's Steel grinds in the M200/400/600 size. Also the narrow Stub.

That is how I found out I don't like them and need not give them any more thought. It is a reasonably inexpensive way to get an answer to the question and settle it once and for all.

I have a cursive italic from Richard, actually its and ItaliFine, and do like it but I like the crisp italic I got from him even better.

What did you do with the nibs if you didn't like them?

I suppose I am living dangerously, I have not received the pen yet, and I am just hoping for the best!

Also, I do not beleive that Richard Binder makes nibs for the M800, largest is for the M600.

Well, just got my reground Pelikan M800 nib back from Greg. Total time of nine days includung shipping time. Installed the nib and could not be more satisfied with the performance. Back in love with the fountain pen again.
Can not say enough good things about Greg. He's patient with the phone calls and is very communicative via email during the process and VERY quick. Did I mention the regrind (oblique cursive italic - medium) is fantastic? thumbup.gif One very happy camper. Am sending him a second one tommorrow morning.

Great! I am looking forward to getting mine soon, it was supposed to be shipped out today before the Washington show. Richard does them immediately if you buy the pen from him, can be a couple months otherwise I am told.

Absolutely untrue. I have M800 and M1000 nibs in stock, and I can regrind them to any shape that I offer for smaller nibs.

Sorry about the miscommunication, I had read another post about your own personal nibs that you made and they had said that there were not any of those for the 800, I know that you have 800 Pelican nibs, do you also make your own 800 nibs? I just bought a pen from you and I may want to try one.

I am happy to report that I received my cursive italic pen from Mr. Binder in less than a week! This was my 25th anniversary present so the 805 with silver trimming was very appropriate. The pen writes great! I love it! smile.gif
