not bad but it seems to be in a bad shape. i mean all the tortoise shell is stained. still is a nice pen if you can clean it a bit.

Great restoration job! If you acquired it from a Brazilian seller, I was looking at the same pen. Any idea what caused the section to disintegrate that way?

Congrats--that's a very beautiful pen, something to treasure for many years to come. It's always great to see a previously abused pen get a new life. biggrin.gif

The pen was inded bougth from a Brasilian antique dealer, and i did not know how the front of the pen get in that condition .
The restauration was made by a friend whith more than 30 years of experience ( Excellent in my opinion), i dont have the skill to make this deep restauration.
The stains that seam to apear in the foto are not stains in the bind. The body is painted whith white ink and when i put the bind i did rotate it and that ink was harmed, so i will have to paint it again and be more carefull next time i put the bind.

Thanks for your comments!

Nice pen. I really like the amber-bodied Pelikans.

Why is it that people paint the barrels white? I've seen it on a few pens. Was this something that was done at the factory?

I think so, from factory they used also to came painted in white, i think it was to give a better color in binds that ware a bit transparent, so that the piston did not apear in the transperancy of the celuloide. I have seen a couple of then in his way. But this ink is easely taken off if i discover that this is not true.

I don't have one of these, but the looks of this model is one of my favorites. Congrats on getting the pen and having it restored!

Best, Ann

Congrats! I love to see vintage pens rescued in ths way. I also feel that the vintage character is enhanced by flaws like some discoloration, scratches or some tarnish on the metal furniture. For me they are beauty marks.
