Forgive me if I have been negligent in not finding the answer to my question on FPN, but alas, I have not found it. I believe I know the difference between the 200 and 400 in pricing is because of the nib. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am currently longing after the 300. puddle.gif My hunger for Pelikans and small pens has not yet been satiated. I understand the 300 costs more than the 400. Is there a quality difference or something else? Basically, what is the difference in these pens other than in size? Thanks in advance for any information.

Someone who knows more about it will have to tell the particulars, but the 200 and 400 are made from different materials aside from the nib.

Richard's new Pelikan page shows the same price for 400 and 300 pens. They are more or less the same thing, except that the 300 is very small.

If the 300 is more than the 400 I would guess that it's a matter of low demand and more difficult production for such a small pen. This is a *very* small pen, not just slightly smaller than the 400. Otherwise, the materials are the same AFAIK.

Between the 200 & 400 it's the nib and the material of the barrel. The 400 barrel is celluloid acetate (I recommend searching on that term in this forum for how it is made) while the 200 barrels are a less expensive plastic - injection molded?

Thanks beezaur & KCat. Now one more quick question. All I have seen in my limited time in looking are green striated and black pens. Do they come in other colors? I know the 320 is different.
KCat
I've only seen the green stripe or black 300s but I haven't looked much either.

Orange.

Check Richard's page.

The small M300 size pens also came in a black with vermeil cap version (M350), it's the younger sibling of the M650 that Scribe has for sale at the moment in the Marketplace.

I have both the M350 and the M650 and putting the two next to one another is a very amusing comparison. They look exactly the same, except the M350 just makes you go "aww..." smile.gif

There is another M320 version which is the green marble resin, for all of them see here: http://www.nibs.com/PelikanM300.htm

Thanks! Now you've gone and done it. I was going to be satisfied with a black 300. I like small, I love Pelikans, but green is not a favorite. I was not real enamored with the 320 colors or the higher price. I hadn't seen the 350. I now want need the black 350. puddle.gif Guess I'll have to save longer. Money for going to see my new granddaughter when she is born is going to have to come first.

The black M300 is cute but it cannot compare to the M350. The M350 is discontinued now I think...

From what I was told a long time ago, the striped barrels have to have the marblized material applied in strips over a clear substrate, and then polished smooth, whereas the 200 barrels are much simpler in construction.

But that could have been pure unadulterated bovine scat.

The 300 or 320 ist the smallest of them all. I have a relatively big hand but I'm still going to get a 320 because I like = need = want another small pen for my T-shirt pocket. At least here, they both cost the same and the 350 is no longer being manufactured. The 300 and 350 nibs both have 14 K = 585 gold plus rhodium as does the 400 nib, but the 200's nib is "only" a gold-plated steel nib.

Lengths in cm, capped or posted are like this:

Souverän M400 -- 12.7 -- 14.9
Souverän M300 -- 11.0 -- 13.0
Souverän M200 -- 12.4 -- 14.7

Lots of luck cloud9.gif

PS: tell your son/daughter that you need the pen as a present for your new grandchild
