I have just received my PFM V back from a service and am wondering if it is possible to get ink on your fingers from the higher part of the inlaid nib. I can't say what the pen was like before because as soon as I had bought it from ebay I sent it for a service. I will have to take more notice to be sure the ink is coming from this pen and not others in rotation. I am definitely not holding the pen anywhere near where the ink comes out of the nib so wonder if it can come from beneath any other part of the inlaid nib.

I know that is very possible with triumph nibbed Snorkels and Touchdowns, but I've no idea about PFMs.

I have had the same problem with triumph nibbed snorkels, I beleive they required sealing behind the point holder. Not to sure about the anatomy of a PFM though.

What you are experiencing is, while not typical, is a common problem with the inlaid nibs (PFM, Targa and Imperial). The ink wicks up under the nib inside the section where the section stops, and then oozes out on top where your fingers pick it up. It can be repaired by sealing the nib assembly with Captain Tolley's. When I repair them, I also take the nib apart and seal inside where the ink wicks under the nib. It may not show up until after the pen has been in use for a while, so the may not be caught by whomever restores/restored the pen.

It's a repair that I do, and could do for you if you don't feel comfortable taking the writing unit apart.
