Full Version: Royal Challenger Section Glued to Barrel

I just purchased a Parker Royal Challenger with sword clip on e-Bay. The section seems super glued to the barrel. I've tried heat and some soaking. Section is hard rubber. It may be that the feed and nib are superglued to the section as well.

Who in your opinion would be the best person to attempt a fix?

If it's too risky, should I demand a refund?

Thanks.

Bob

I specialize in restoration of difficult vintage pens. (Yes, this is a self-promotional posting. I would hate to see your pen go to a repairer who will break it -- I won't -- or "lose" it.)

I have several clients here on FPN who may be willing to describe their experiences with my work.

Hi Bob,

I would demand a refund if I were you. The repair costs, if it can be repaired at all, will be much, much higher than the value of the pen.

Sorry to bring this bad news...

Warm regards, Wim

I don't think that's true, Wim. A Sword-Clip Royal Challenger, in collectible condition, usually goes for something on the high side of $500.00.

Hi Richard,

Ok, IŽll retract that, as I didnŽt know they are worth that much.

However, it has to be in collectible condition, or has to be restored to collectible condition, for it to be worth that. Considering the amount of time and work it will take to do so, it is likely going to be an expensive repair, especially if the feed and nib are superglued to the section as well.

Add to that the cost of the pen, which I donŽt know, and it may not be worthwhile to restore after all, unless youŽre prepared to pay just for the privilege of owning this particular pen, and not another copy.

Just my opinion, of course... biggrin.gif

Warm regards, Wim
