Hi,

What is your top MUST HAVE noodlers colors.

I'll be placing an order, and to save on shipping, I place less orders, and bigger ones...

I like noodlers, and would like suggestions as to which color I should get next.

The only thing I'll mention is that I already have a few, including Baystate Blue, Polar Blue and Ottoman Azure.

Oh, unless you REALLY think it is necessary, no exclusive please!

So now, have fun, spend my money!

Thanks

nick

It's a Pendemonium exclusive, but Legal Lapis is a wonderful color.

P.S. since you mention an order I didn't put an FPN ones...

Is Heart Of Darkness really a brown - it always looked black to me - at least in the scans I have seen
kiavonne
No exclusives, huh. Ok, here's a possible list:

Heart of Darkness
Nikita Red
Hunter Green or Marine Green
Navy
Red Black
Apache Sunset
Habanero
Navajo Turquoise
Walnut
Purple

Heart of Darkness is really a black. Very dark black.
Lloyd
Bulletproof black & RedBlack.
Firefyter-Emt
The El Lawrence has a lovley color, but can be a bit thick in some pens.

I have to toss my vote for the Legal Lapis, it is one of my standards.

I also really like the Lexington Gray too.

Maybe Dragon's Napalm to realy fire things up??
JSorrell
Heart of Darkness
Nikita
Zhivago
Baystate Blue (Danger!)

Those are my favorites from my collection.

[EDIT] How has Zhivago not been mentioned? It's such an amazing ink.

I actually have Zhivago, but I haven't used it!

And, I use Air Corp Blue Black instead of Navy. The Air Corp Blue Black tends to appear a green black, but it really is blue black, heh.

My standard, must-have blues are Polar Blue (which he has) and Legal Lapis (Pendemonium exclusive).

I use Hunter and Marine Green for my work, both are dark enough to pass with a work setting. I do have Gruene Cactus and Verdun (Swisher exclusive) for a change of pace at home.
Murderface
I pretty much haven't even thought of using another color since I started using Tahitian Pearl (Swisher exclusive). I love it! Verdun looks really cool too, though...

Others I have and like are Legal Lapis, Galileo Manuscript Brown (FPN exclusive), Black, Luxury Blue (I think these two could be mixed to make a good Blue-Black, but haven't tried it yet), and Hunter Green (again, could be mixed to a good Green-Black, I suspect I'll be trying these mixes soon).

Ones I don't have but look great are Nikita and Apache Sunset, but I think they'd have fairly limited application.
Melnicki
**green marine
**golden brown (and/or kiowa pecan)
legal lapis
djinn of the eternal flame (color isn't the best but it flows real well!)
swishmix glacier blue
Verdun
navajo turquoise
Widowmaker (barely made the list. It could use some more waterproofness, so mix it with Djinn!)

for a weird color that will be sure to grab attention:
tolstoy

Ottoman Rose looks amazing every time I see it, but I still haven't gotten some of my own.
artaddict
How about just plain black, and not bulletproof? The Polar Black seems like overkill for my purposes.

I like Apache Sunset too.
Deirdre
Actually, my single favorite Noodler's color (in that I use it the most) is Kuprin. Also exclusively Pendemonium, but it is a magenta.

Ottoman Azure is probably my second-most used, because I use it at work (I don't have to keep stuff for long, typically).

Black, Luxury Blue (I think these two could be mixed to make a good Blue-Black, but haven't tried it yet)

I didn't like my (Pear Tree Pen Co) sample of Luxury blue very well, so I mixed in a little black.
It makes quite a nice blue black. I think I used about 7 parts Lux Blue, to 1 part black, but I was working with small quantities and could be off. It was waterproof, no precipitates, and to me, a nicer color than the Blue alone.
Deirdre
I actually prefer a blue that's mixed from Violet Vote and Legal Lapis. Less expensive than Luxury Blue, a bit darker, and if you mix just right, quite a nice blue.
JayKay
I really enjoy the red black and the Nakita (red). I'd suggest ottoman azure but you've got it already.
BillTheEditor
Legal Lapis (sorry ... it's a great ink)
Heart of Darkness
Green Marine
Zhivago
Squetege
Antietam

Plus the ones you already have. If you allowed exclusives, there would be more blue and brown on the list.
hamadryad11
My absolute favourite colours so far are Marine Green, Antietam and Burgundy. Either Apache Sunset or Habenero is next on my list, because they both look amazing in the scans I've seen, but I've never used either one.
limesally
Legal Lapis. Even if it's an exclusive, it really is one of the best!
Bulletproof Black.

Near-BP:
Aircorp Blue-black
Zhivago

no BP at all:
Antietam
Navajo Turquoise
PenTieRun
Another vote for Antietam, and you really should check out Purple Wampum if you even remotely like purple. It's a darker purple with some noir undertones that tries to replicate the color of shells in wampum belts traded among Native American and Dutch, English and French settlers in the 17th and 18th centuries in North America. I think Nathan got the color just right.

I second Tiananmen Red and Baystate Blue.

I also have:
Blue-Black
Squeteague
Eternal Brown (Pendemonium Exclusive) - "Cool" Brown
Nightshade
FPN Galileo Manuscript Brown (FPN Exclusive) - "Warm" Brown
Polar Black
Baystate Concord Grape - Not really used

Pretty much any Noodler's ink is great in my book.

Inks I currently have my eye on:
La Couleur Royale
Year of the Golden Pig (Highlighter Ink)

Gawain
As i read all these colors, I wondered how they would stack up, an unofficial pol, if you will. Each color was mentioned:

Legal Lapis, 8 times

Heart of Darkness, 5 times

Red Black, 4 times
Apache Sunset, 4 times
Navajo Turquoise, 4 times
Bulletproof Black, 4 times
Antietam, 4 times,
Green Marine, 4 times

Baystate Blue, 3 times
Nikita Red, 3 times
Hunter Green, 3 times
Zhivago, 3 times

Tienanmen Red, 2 times
Habanero, 2 times

All the following were mentioned once:
Brown
Violet Vote
Golden Brown
Kiowa Pecan
Sanguaro Wine
Cactus Green
Navy
Walnut
Purple
El Lawrence
Lexington Gray
Dragon's Napalm
Polar Blue
Eternal Brown
Blue Black
Sequeteaque
Purple Wampum
Aircorp blue-black
Burgundy
Squetego
Ottomen Azure
Magenta
Kuprin
Tahitian Pearl
Luxury Blue
Golden Brown
Djinn of eternal flame
glacier blue
verdun
widowmaker
tolstoy
ottoman rose
night shade
polar black
baystate concord grape

(I have no relationship with noodler's... yaddie da, da , da)
MiniMaupassant
I'll add another vote for Navajoe Turquoise and La Couleur Royale!
GardenWeasel
Violet Vote is my day-to-day ink. Gets my vote!
Deirdre
I should toss in a vote for Green Marine as well.
I like Navajo Turquoise, but since the OP already had Ottoman Azure, they seemed too close on the spectrum.
tar heel
Heart of Darkness
Kiowa Pecan
Nikita
Cactus Green
Midnight Blue
Wampum
Navajo Turquoise
Baystate Blue
Apache Sunset
Red-Black

that 10?
SallyLyn
Yes, at some point you need must get Legal Lapis and Violet Vote. Buy them together for a discount.

Do a search for "cmyk" Some nice info on color mixing. Based on that... you need
Noodlers Black Bulletproof
Navajo Turquoise
Noodlers Yellow
Noodlers Shahs Rose or maybe Sanguaro Wine

I'm partial to the green-blues like, Air Corp, Blue-Black, Navy.
Apache Sunset is such a nice contrast and shades in a wider, wet pen.
For the life of me I don't see much difference in Marine Green and Cactus Green. One will do.

Lexington Grey is BP, a nice color and you can mix with. You can try diluting Back, 10-20-30% if you want to save money.

Glacier Blue is a Swisher color but I find the flow very nice and not as chalky as Polar Blue. Also like their Grizzly.

One point about Swisher, Pendemonium and some others, you get a discount when you buy a bunch of one brand. You can always email to ensure you qualify for various discounts.
kookychick
My votes:

Non-exclusives
Green Marine

Exclusives (Pendemonium)
Violet Vote
Legal Lapis
Rachmaninov (if you like pink--and I mean PINK) smile.gif

Harry R
Apologies for including Pendemonium specials, but I agree with previous posts on:
Legal Lapis
Iraqi Indigo (now Violet Vote)
Navajo Turquoise
Golden Brown

Inks I have not seen mentioned that I recently bought are Walnut (brown) and Beaver (coppery-rusty colour). If you like browns, then Walnut is a very nice shade. However, Beaver is something a bit different that I've really come to like. It also gets comments from others. So consider this a vote for Beaver.
Stanley Lyndon
Golden Brown,
Old Manhattan Black,
Fox Red,
Green Marine,
Walnut.
lefty928
For me, the absolute must-have Noodler's colors (of the ones I've tried so far) are Black and Legal Lapis.

Others I like:

Apache Sunset
Navaho Turquoise
Squeteague
Tahitian Pearl
Zhivago

Walnut, Manhattan Blue, and possibly Violet Vote are on my "buy someday, maybe" list ... and then perhaps Turquoise or Purple Martin ...
Greg D
These are my favorite Noodlers' Inks (In no particular order):

Bulletproof Black
Blue-black
Red-black
Walnut
Antietam
Habanero
Apache Sunset

I have not tried the Navajo Turquoise yet but that is on my list to buy.

For what its worth - I had some Legal Lapis and didn't care for it at all. I normally don't mind some nib creep but the nib creep with LL was awful, and to me, the color is very boring.
kudzu
Tough call. And I should say I haven't tried all the Noodler's colors, but here are the ones I love to use:

Black (bulletproof)
Hunter Green (bulletproof)
Burgandy
Swisher Aquamarine Blue (bulletproof)
Navy
Walnut
Tiananmen
Shah's Rose (for when you need some pop or accent color)
Legal Eagle
Of the noodlers I've tried here is my list.

1. Black(bulletproof)
2. Luxury Blue(bulletproof)
3. Hunter Green(bulletproof)
4. Blue Ghost(bulletproof)

Ottoman Azure is probably my second-most used, because I use it at work (I don't have to keep stuff for long, typically).

I was waiting for someone to point out the Azure. Definitely one of the best colors in my opinion in the Noodler's line up.

I think a lot of us didn't mention it because the original poster already had that color.
CelesteCAT
Some of these are definitely on my list for the near future. I've been thinking about getting Tahitian Pearl or Legal Lapis. But looking at scans, they seem to be similar - except for being exclusive to two different companies. headsmack.gif

If you like blues, Squeteague is an interesting color, different but not too flashy for office use.

I have had the inks in a number of pens. With some pen-ink combinations, I can't tell them apart. In others, Tahitian Pearl comes out a lot greener. If you haven't seen a Tahitian Pearl soak test, be aware that the black color is the one that washes away, leaving behind a greenish color bonded permanently to the paper. That's the opposite of what most people would think.

I should note that I haven't done a controlled type of test where I ink the same pen with each color and compare. I'm talking about times I have taken two different pens and inked one with each color, then compared.

Wow!

I posted this before hopping out of town for 2 days and expected only a few answers.

One added comment before the updated list. My next order will not be to a dealer which has exclusives, this being the reason why they were not in my original post. I already do have Legal Lapis, and would like Violet Vote (was out of stock when I sent them my order). But with the cost of shipping to canada with tracking (which is all most dealers will do), I'll have to wait to get that bottle. But if somebody was going to order from them, and would like to add a bottle of VV and reship it to me afterward (regular mail) then it may be worth... pm me.

Here is the update list started by another poster. I'll have to go through the list and decide what I order.

Thanks all for the help! (any comments on the list are welcome)

Legal Lapis, 12 times

Bulletproof Black, 8 times

Apache Sunset, 7 times
Navajo Turquoise, 7 times

Carterofmars
Can these inks clog pens? I remember reading somewhere that Noodler's ink can do that.
Philip1209
I don't have ten Noodler's inks because I tend to diversify, but, of the ones I own, I'd suggest:
Noodler's Black- besides the nib creep, the best behaved ink I have.
Noodler's Widow Maker- a cool red ink that is nifty to have for editing documents. As a plus it looks like dried blood (but Noodler's Antietam looks more like dried blood.)
JSorrell
I think the lesson learned here is never stop buying ink. tongue.gif

That's my philosophy, anyway.
