I found this site looking for a new nib for my Platinum 3776. I was given the pen as a gift and hadn't used it much because the point was so fine.

I ended up with a Music nib which is little broad but it sure is smooth.

I'm left handed. Does that make any difference on nib selection? I also dug out a bottle of old Omas ink in Sepia that must be 10 years old.

It seems to flow fine but I'm wondering if it is ok for the pen.

I'm looking forward to learning.

Hi and Welcome to the FPN!!

Overall, I don't think being left handed will make a difference other than on say italic nibs. There are left and right italic nibs (More info here) It really comes down to what nib works for you which we right handers deal with also. As for the ink, it should be OK.

Hi and welcome too!

I'm not left-handed (can't write much better with the right hand either, har har). You might want to ckeck out some day a relatively expensive pen as these often offer a wider array of nibs as well, some of which are just for lefties...

Welcome from down the road in Wallingford (right near Dicks).

Here is an article about nibs for left-handed writers. For the most part there is no special nib needed, though some south-paws seem to prefer an oblique nib - To the Point: Special Nibs for Lefties?, by Richard Binder.

If you are interested in finding more about pens and getting a chance to see and possibly try out lots of cool pens, come to one of the Seattle Pen Club meetings. The club meets the 3rd Saturday of each month at the Community Room at Third Place Books in the Lake Forest Park town center (right upstairs from the Library).

Welcome to the Forum.

John is right the SPC is a great place to meet people and learn and try out pens.

I got an email saying the meeting was on Aug 9th for this month in Tacoma.

I have only been to one of the SPC meetings, but plan on attending more.

I'm in Fremont part time.

I haven't gotten that email (and August is pretty well shot for me), but that probably means it is being held in the home of Sterling Picard. Sterling is a pen collector with one of the more drool-worthy collections of vintage pens in Seattle. He has original Sheaffer and Parker store cases filled with some incredible vintage pens, as well as one of the largest collections of pens by the Sterling Pen Co. of Boston that you will ever see. It is a great opportunity.

Hi John,

Thanks for the information on left handed pens -- A great way to clear up my question. I'll tag that meeting and try to make one. It sounds great.

Thanks,

Jim

Hello and Welcome from So. Whidbey Island.
The speculation that the SPC met at Sterlings house this month was correct. Next month it will be at the usual time and place.
Best regards, Ken.

Welcome from Lynnwood! Prepare to $pend. This is a costly site to play with - but lots of fun.

Howdy, Jim, from another Ballardite. I live roughly halfway between Ballard High and Salmon Bay Park. Nice to see another local on the boards!
